FOUR STAR GOLD Awarded, Roger Ground House is a wonderfully comfortable Grade II-Listed, Tudor/Georgian Period property. The house was fully refurbished at the end of Feb 2017, retaining all of the original period features (oak beams, slate and oak floor, fireplaces, oak panelled walls) but giving the whole house a gorgeously fresh, clean, updated feel.

We offer 3 and 4 night SHORT BREAKS in the off-peak period and charge 75% of the weekly rate for 3 nights and 80% of the weekly rate for 4 nights. (PLEASE NOTE, the short break price to the right is incorrect, as TripAdvisor calculate the price on an average nightly rate of a full week). Our bookings & payments are managed by Lakelovers currently, so all enquiries will be sent on to them to follow up on. If you have any questions about RGH though, please drop me a message - very happy to help! The house has a brilliant visitor file with recommendations of where to eat, walk, explore. There are maps and visitor info leaflets and fun suggestions for ghyll scrambling or clay pigeon shooting. The house is well suited for holidaying with small children, we have lots of games, a little wooden train set, DVDs and books and great gardens to run around in. Infants are very welcome and to make travelling easier with wee ones, we supply a high chair, changing mat and travel cot (please bring own cot linen).

Very well equipped, warm, lovely scenery, nice fires etc. Stayed in the hideaway which was excellent, our friends were in the main house and that was ideal for dinners and chatting. Just mind your head on all those low beams!More

About the neighbourhood
RGH is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, within the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rural hamlet of Roger Ground is a haven of peace and tranquility, yet it is only a 5 minute walk to Hawkshead, 'The Prettiest Village in the Lake District'. The village has 4 brilliant pubs with restaurants; all welcome and cater well for children. Hawkshead has the essentials: Co-Op supermarket (open until 10pm, with ATM/cash point), cafes, GP, pharmacy, post office (cash can be withdrawn over the counter). There are many independent shops: hairdressers, delis, art studios and of course all things Beatrix Potter! The visitor info file at RGH details lots of recommendations of what to do/explore/eats/drinks/walks.
Getting around
My best recommendation is to leave the car idle all week, and explore on foot! Walks start straight from the garden gate. The surrounding area has some of the best walking in the Lakes. RGH is along the lane from Grizedale Forest and is perfect for walks to Coniston, the Langdales & Tarn Hows (Tarn Hows is especially good for children to toddle around, for baby buggies & the elderly - as it is low level walking with excellent paths). There is an OS map of South East Lakes and walking guide books at RGH for your convenience.

It's easier to drive to RGH; although there is a bus from Ambleside to the village (bus stop at the end of the lane).
The closest train station is at Windermere (8 miles away).
There is private parking for 3 cars for RGH and 1 separate space for the apartment beside the house. Hawkshead Tourist Information Office is home to the closest Taxi service; call them to make a booking.
Closest airport is Manchester Airport (under 2 hrs drive away).
