This 300 year-old traditional stone watermill has been cleverly converted into three individual and attractive cottage-style apartments. In an idyllic riverside setting beside tumbling Torver Beck, each of the three apartments (Dipper, Wren and Robin) are full of character and retain many original features such as exposed stone walls and beams, whilst ensuring comfort and warmth after the day's activities. From the car-park a grassy lane beside the beck leads to a large wooded field (sheep-free - a haven for dogs) and on to the secluded lake-shore, where you can sit in peace and enjoy the views, or jump into a canoe to explore the lake and the island. Formed from the lower storey of the original Mill building, Robin cottage is all on one level and has a small but private south-facing garden. Approached down a flight of old stone steps (alternative path avoids the steps), the front door leads into a small entrance hall, off which lie the main living area, bathroom and one of the bedrooms. The second bedroom has a separate entrance off the garden, a few paces from the main front door. The spacious living area comprises a smart fitted kitchen, dining area and comfy seating with flat-screen TV. Tasteful lighting and flame-effect electric fire add atmosphere, and digital electric radiators provide warmth at the touch of a button. The master bedroom has a king-size bed; double in the annex. Both have bedside lighting and tables and ample drawer and hanging space. The separate bedroom has a great view straight out onto the pretty waterfalls backed by trees and shrubs on the far side of the beck.More

Thank you so much for a great review. So glad you enjoyed Robin, and I hope you will be back. We are planning some changes for the future - hopefully we can incorporate more drying space within that.

Thanks so much for a great review and I hope you will be back. We're trying to work out how to incorporate the annex bedroom into the rest of the property. With 18-inch thick stone walls it's not so easy, but watch this space!

About the neighbourhood
Sunny Bank is situated on the quiet western shore of Coniston Water. Surrounded by fantastic scenery on all sides you don't need to go far to enjoy the beauty of the Lakes. Wonderful walks from the doorstep take you along the lake-shore or up onto Torver Common, with its pretty tarns and breathtaking lake and mountain views. Hire our canoe (or bring your own boat) and have fun exploring the lake including Swallows & Amazons 'Wild Cat' island. Torver, a mile away, has two pubs, both serving excellent food. Coniston, 4 miles north, is a small but busy typical Lakeland village, with several shops and a variety of pubs and places to eat. Ulverston (6 miles south) has a great supermarket (Booths), cobbled streets and many interesting shops.
How to get there
Best to come by car - we are about 30 minutes from J36 of the M6. Plenty of parking space is provided in the enclosed parking area. If you don't have a car you can get the bus from Ulverston (change from the main West Coast railway line at Lancaster). It stops right outside and also goes to Coniston where you can change onto other buses for getting around the lakes.
