Stag Cottage, melmerby is a beautiful character cotttage, lots of atmosphere with modern kitchen. Lovely private garden. Situated in village with tasty cafe/bakery and friendly pub serving excellent food. Walks nearby. Welcome hamper with all local produce was really appreciated. Would definitely stay here again. Just got back from a fantastic weekend at Stag Cottage with my friends. Booked as an easter weekend break for us. The location is absolutely beautiful. We had a wonderful time at stag cottage...lovely location..village very friendly and a brill pub... beautiful cottage..this cottage is excellent...very clean... welcome hamper on arrival... plenty of reading matter and board games...basics are provided...lovely wood burner...when we stayed it was snowing and blowing a blizzard but the cottage was very warm..plenty of wood for the fire..beds very comfy...lovely bathrooms..wood differently...

About the neighbourhood
The Village of Melmerby is in the Eden Valley, lying between the Pennines and the Lake District, 12 miles from Ullswater and 9 miles from the historic market town of Penrith. There are a number of outstanding walks along the edge of the River Eden and in the Pennines which can be reached out of the front door of Melmerby Hall and Stag Cottage. One of England’s largest Druidic stone circles – Long Meg and her Daughters – is also close by and in the ownership of the Rowley Estates.

Melmerby is the home of the Egon Ronay Award winning organic Village Bakery and shop which also serves fantastic meals and Lavazza take away coffee & baked goods. Leave the M6 Motorway at J40 sign posted Penrith

At the roundabout take the A66 exit heading East towards Appleby/Scotch Corner

After 0.9 miles at the next roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A686 sign posted Alston

After approx 5 miles you will reach the metal bridge, over the bridge is the village of Langwathby

Continue on the A686 and you will enter the village of Melmerby

As you enter the village and after the sandstone wall on the left, take the next turn left and then left again

Stag Cottage is located through the sandstone archway directly ahead. After passing through the archway turn right for Stag Cottage.
