St Ives, Cornwall, England
Leo's Cottage has arguably the best sea views in town, and is in the heart of Downalong, the old fishing quarter - a maze of narrow, cobbled streets, artists studios and cafes.

A quiet No Through Road and sea wall are all that separate the house from Bamaluz beach - a small cove with year round, unrestricted access for dog walkers and a golden, sandy beach at low tide.

Parking is within easy reach at the Island and Smeaton's Pier long stay car parks. These get very busy in peak season (July and August).

Built around 1840, the house is a traditional fisherman's cottage, but with superfast broadband/WiFi, comfy mattresses, vintage furniture, Egyptian cotton bed linen and other home comforts. Walls are painted in shades of chalky white and grey to reflect St Ives wonderful light, which bounces around the house from the eas...

The location is amazing, just around the corner from the happening bustle of St Ives main sea front on a quiet little road directly overlooking Bamaluz Beach and out to sea, 1 minute is all it takes to step from bubbly beach life to relaxing...More

Great location and smashing views and a comfortable cottage with character upstairs. It was let down by the kitchen not being cleaned, it needs a a refit, tiles coming up on the floor, rising damp on the walls and in the cupboards, lots of chipped...More

Sorry you thought so David - we were loathe to rip out the kitchen as it has so much character compared to the new and shiny versions but it should of course have been clean. It's unusual to hear that as we have an excellent...More

About the neighbourhood
St Ives fame as an artists' colony is well documented. The reason painters and sculptors have flocked to this little town is partly the light: being surrounded on three sides by sea, the light is like nowhere else on mainland Britain.

The other element is the scale and nature of the town, which as sculptor Barbara Hepworth put it, means it is possible to live a simple life. You can walk everywhere, buy everything you need, and entertain yourself within a ten-minute radius. It's bliss. There are some pretty good clothes and jewellery shops.

Getting around
For trips exploring the sights around Cornwall, a car is useful. It's by no means necessary in St Ives, particularly in Downalong, where cafes, shops and beaches are within a few minutes walk.

Several taxi companies serve the town and there are local bus services between St Ives and Penzance, and along the coast road to Zennor and Penlee.

- Head for Redruth, then Hayle, where St Ives is well signposted. There's a 'park and ride' facility or several car parks in town within striking distance of the cottage.
