Looe, Cornwall, England
Located among the quaint old streets of East Looe, Lantau Cottage is an immaculately presented historic house dating back over 400 years. It is very well equipped for modern day living yet steeped in a rich history with many original features including beamed and gabled ceilings and offer discerning guests a flavour of days long gone. With quality furniture and soft furnishings throughout, guests will appreciate the attention to detail. The houses are normally let from Saturday to Saturday during the peak season but we offer long weekend breaks during other times. The house is ideally situated just a few paces from East Looe’s sandy beach, historic harbour and many cafes, bars and restaurants. The house is a no-smoking property and we regret that we can't take pets. The house has nearby parking for 2 cars including 1 space in the beac... Read more

We were two families (8 in total) who enjoyed the most amazing holiday in the wonderful Elizabethan house. So much history – beamed ceilings, paneled bedrooms, tapestries and wall hangings…and a ship mast forming the centre of the stairs! Well equipped kitchen and dining room with comfortable leather sofas in the living room area. Beds were very comfortable complimented with good quality bed linen. Very clean throughout and some real attention to detail here.

Easy to find parking for two cars and we had no problem in finding and extra parking space in the Millpool carpark. We were also able to park within a few yards of the house to unload and load.

Looe’s sandy beach is just yards away at the end of the street (clean and dog free) and harbour close by (great for the obligatory crabbing). Lots of family friendly cafes and restaurants close by too and all reasonably prices. We enjoyed some lovely walks – especially the coastal walk to Polperro.

A special...

We stayed for Christmas and the New Year. Wow. This is a real gem and in the perfect spot - close to everything, the beach, the harbour, the cafes and restaurants. Very nicely furnished and very comfortable beds (helped by being in a quiet back street). The house is very well equipped - great for cooking Christmas lunch with plenty of pots and pans of all sizes. The children escaped to the 'snug/ante' room on the top floor and claimed it as their own - it has its own TV and sofa - while the grown-ups relaxed in the open plan living area on the ground floor. The weather was kind to us and we went on plenty of walks along the coast path: Millendreath, Talland Bay, Polperro...and to a secret beach! A great time was had by all and we've already booked to stay again.

About the neighbourhood
The seaside town of Looe keeps visitors entertained all year round whilst still retaining a working fishing port. Stand on the quayside in the evening and watch the boats return before dining on fresh fish in a local restaurant. The town prides itself on its fresh fish, and be it award winning fish and chips near the river or gourmet menus in smart restaurants overlooking the harbour, you know you won't be disappointed. To work all that food off, Looe is a great place for walking. The South West Coast Path passes through the town, plus there are countless walks in the beautiful countryside, or along the two rivers that flow inland. For children there’s a safe sandy beach with rock pools plus crabbing in the harbour.
Getting around
Looe is a great base for exploring other parts of Cornwall which can be done either by bus, train or car. There are also regular boat trips (weather permitting) from the harbour that will take you to neighbouring Polperro.
