Pender Island, British Columbia
Welcome to North Star Cottage! Imagine yourself in a cozy storybook cottage with fir floors, shiplap ceilings and lots of custom wood touches. There’s a wonderfully comfortable bed, a well-supplied kitchen, and a wicker loveseat on a covered porch where you can look out into the unique country garden. Or, if you prefer, go and sit your own private garden: there’s sun beside the roses or shade under a big cedar. You’ll be comfortable here. Discover walking trails right from the property, which backs onto a park. It’s easy to get to everywhere on the island from your central location.

Our guests call the place 'an oasis' and 'a sanctuary.'

The cottage has edge grain fir flooring and custom wood touches throughout. The linens on the queen bed are luxurious. There's comfortable seating, a reading light, a stereo, and a...

The cottage is located halfway between north and south Pender Islands, very convenient for exploring in both directions, and fairly close to the main shopping areas. The inside of the cottage is thoughtfully decorated and stocked with extras such as olive oil and local bath soaps. It is very quiet and there is a private garden area for guests.

Management response:

Thanks for the positive review, so glad it was a positive experience for you. Cheers Garnet

Pender is stunning in the fall. Colourful leaves mingle with epic evergreens. Twisted Arbutus trees look down on calm lakes - and then there's The Ocean . My favourite image was seeing a deer munch on a freshly fallen apple at a nearby park. The cabin itself is cozy - Laura Ingalls Wilder's 'Little House in the Big Woods' meets...

Management response:

Thanks for the superlatives, but it certainly does sound like Pender island. Appreciate that you noticed the details. Cheers Garnet

This is a good place to stay for a couple who love to cycle and hike as much as my partner and I do. We really enjoyed Pender Island's lovely views as we cycled around the island and we were able to hike in areas where we had little beaches all to ourselves. The owners were kind and thoughtful and...

Management response:

Thanks for the great review, happy that it filled the bill and you enjoyed yourselves here on Pender. Cheers Garnet

About the neighbourhood
Pender Island is a great place to unwind. It is big enough to be fun--there are beaches and hikes, art galleries and restaurants, but it is a sunny southern Gulf Island.

Listen to the birds. Look at the stars at night. Enjoy the peace and quiet that comes from being out in nature. Go hiking! We have more trails and beach access than any other of the Gulf Islands. Swim in the summer. It’s brisk in the ocean, but Magic Lake is delightful.

The Farmers’ Market on Saturday is fun. The Red Tree Gallery at Hope Bay is always worth a visit. Visit Talisman Books and Gallery at the Driftwood Center as well, for a fine selection selection of local crafts.
Getting around
A car is the easiest way to see Pender. We have had guests that bike all over the island as well; that works well for the very fit. The island is hilly! We also have car stops here on the island, where drivers will stop to pick up people who are waiting, if they appear friendly. We have a car stop just outside our place. On Fridays, a small bus takes people around the island. One of the pickup spots is the car stop by us.

How to get there
Airport: Vancouver/Victoria: 26.0 km
Ferry: Otter Bay: 10.0 km
If you are coming from Vancouver in the summer, please be sure to reserve on the ferry in advance. It gets really busy and you don't want to be left behind.

From Victoria, you can't make ferry reservations to Pender, but if you get there at least an hour early for the afternoon ferry, you will likely get on. Be aware that long weekends are crazy and plan accordingly.
