The gîte at Saugé is an excellent base to combine a relaxing holiday with exploring the many attractions and historic sites in this area. The gîte offers comfortable and well-equipped accommodation for 4 or 5 people in a peaceful setting with a sunny terrace and gardens overlooking the picturesque village of Sanxay. There is also a chambre d’hôtes in the main house if you wish to sleep a further two people. The large open-air swimming pool in the village is nearby and a long distance footpath passes the gates to the house and is ideal for walking, cycling or horse-riding. Facilities include table-tennis, table football, bicycles and pétanque or boules; arrangements can be made for fishing or horse-riding.<BR><BR>

About the neighbourhood
The picturesque village of Sanxay is situated within a loop of the river Vonne with houses dating from the 15th century. There are good local amenities including village shops, a bakery and bar. There is a tourist information office, campsite, children's’ play area and a 50 metre open air swimming pool with accompanying children's’ pool. The village is a good centre for fishing and cycling. The moated Château de Marconnay is a venue for a memorable meal and the interesting Gallo-Roman site, which is open year-round, also stages an internationally acclaimed opera in the amphitheatre each August. In the last week of October the famous International Bird Fair is held at Mènigoute. <BR><BR><BR><BR><BR>

Airport: Poitiers: 25.0 km
Driving to Sanxay is easiest from the Channel ports of St.Malo (3½ hours), Caen (4 hours) or Cherbourg (5 hours), leaving the A10 autoroute at Junction 31. Calais is a drive of about 6 hours.<BR><BR>Low cost airlines fly to Poitiers (25 mins from Sanxay), La Rochelle and Tours (about an hour) or Limoges and Nantes (2 hours). Cars can be hired at all these airports.<BR><BR>The TGV runs to Poitiers from St Pancras with either a change at Lille (change platforms) or Paris (change stations). Cars can be hired at Poitiers station. <BR><BR>It is best initially to discuss your travel plans with Jonathan or Annie; arrangements can be made to meet planes or trains at Poitiers.<BR><BR>
