About the neighbourhood
Marzamemi is a small hamlet which is about 3 km from Pachino. The township is watered almost all around the Ionian Sea and the level is below the sea. On the Ionian Sea meets the two islets of Marzamemi. The inhabitants of this village are all engaged in fishing: it was already very famous, since ancient times for the trap, which was the second in Sicily, after that of Favignana (Trapani at) and now works intermittently every five years. The trap of Marzamemi, was planted by the Arabs during their rule in Sicily.

Marzamemi is as old as the trap. In 1752 were built the palace of the Prince of Villadorata, owner of the entire historical center of Marzamemi, and the church of tuna. Marzamemi has on his side, two small natural harbors called 'Blackwater' and 'Balata'.
