Step back in time to the days of the olde Caribbean! This kitchen cottage is securely nestled in a tropical garden behind a well-known townhouse called Casa Santa Anna, located in Charlotte Amalie's historic district. This grand home was built around 1825 for a wealthy merchant and later, in 1851 was owned by General Santa Anna of Texas's Alamo fame. It was also owned by Vilbrun Guillaume 'Simon' Sam, a President of Haiti in the late 1800's. After the town was burnt to the ground (six times!) some homeowner's built kitchens apart from the home. Today, few kitchen cottages remain intact in the Caribbean. The cottage still has the massive, original cooking hood (the flue is still open and is lined with amazing brickwork). The ceiling line still has the original exposed beams and rafters. The floor has the original herring-boned patterned brick floors. At some point, walls were added to enclose a bedroom and bathroom. There are two ceiling fans and an AC unit in the bedroom. The bathroom will have two fresh bath towels and a hair dryer. The bed has fresh linens. There are hangers, an ironing board an iron and an umbrella in the closet. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. Why eat out every meal? Guest's will be given the secure Wi-Fi passcode upon arrival. The waterfront road and harbor are only a couple minutes away by foot. There are many restaurants that are within a few minutes walk from the cottage. Go online and check out the one's that guests have told me they liked: Cafe Amalia, The Greenhouse, The Big Kahuna, Virgilio's, Cuzzin's and Cafe Amici. Take a guided walking tour of the historic district, walk down to the farmer's market at Market Square and buy a mango and a papaya for breakfast, catch the ferry to St. John (right down the street) for a day trip to remember, go kayaking in the mangroves, spend the day in the healing waters of Magen's Bay, see who can find the tackiest souvenir at Thieves Market, do a day sail right from the harbor and snorkel with rays and sea turtles, spend a lazy afternoon at Honeymoon Beach on Water Island or maybe do a little duty free bargain-hunting right here on Main Street. Take home an experience, not just another vacation! Get around the island like a local and take our $1 safari taxi's. Just jump on at any pullover and when you get close to your destination, ring the doorbell on the ceiling, jump off and hand the driver a dollar! The Olde Danish Kitchen Cottage is not only charming but it is also comfortable, convenient and will save you a lot money! Come to St.Thomas for a few days or maybe even a lifetime! This is a very nice place to stay for those who would like to dive into the old danish living atmosphere. The building is really an old castle located at the center of Charlotte Amalie. So, everything that we needed was in very short walking...More

About the neighbourhood
My home is a stately town house that was built around 1825 in the European Colonial Caribbean style of the day. It has the original shuttered window openings that do not have glass windows. Almost all of the neighboring homes were built around that same (1775-1850) time period. The cottage is situated behind the house in the enclosed garden courtyard. The house is in the quant harbor town of Charlotte Amalie, named after a Danish Queen from the 1700's. Main Street, which is only two blocks from the house, is our main shopping district where passengers on cruise ships go shopping all year round looking for duty free bargains. There are literally hundreds of jewelry stores on St.Thomas. There are also many historic places close to the cottage, like the old Pavillion at Market Square which h...
