This thatched old-world cottage is situated in a well established garden, in the village of Hogsback.
The cottage is exceedingly comfortable, carefully furnished with antique furniture and has a cosy fireplace in the central living / dining room. It has a fully equipped kitchen with electric and gas stove, microwave and freezer / fridge. The three bedrooms can sleep 6 people. There is a bathroom / toilet plus a separate shower / toilet.
Full DSTV and wi-fi.
Weber and open braai facility.
All linen, electric blankets, towels, crockery and cutlery provided.
Within walking distance to the one waterfall, and several hiking trails.
We keep coming back to back o’ the moon! It really is our home away from home in Hogsback and we can’t get enough of it. Derek and Norma always make us feel so welcome and look after us so well, and even Sasha the dog gives us a warm welcome and joins us for a ramble in their stunning garden. The cottage just perfectly sums up the spirit of Hogsback and is simply oozing charm.

Best kept secret in Hogsback!
Back o' the Moon is arguably the most special self catering cottage in the whole of Hogsback. The cottage is steeped in history and one is able to leap back in time to experience the ambience of bygone days complete with cicadas and the aura of hobbits and fairies in the beautiful garden. Derek and Norma are wonderful hosts who pay the utmost attention to detail. A freshly baked bread can be ordered in advance to welcome one's arrival. There is also an assortment of homemade jams and self -harvested honey which can be purchased.
If one is looking for a romantic getaway with a roaring log fire this is the perfect destination. However, the cottage can also accommodate a families with children who can experience the wonder of Hogsback for the very first time. It is conveniently located close to the village and many of the mountain hikes. This is a special place which will truly refresh body, mind and soul.

Stunning!
Lovely little house to stay in. Very comfortable and cozy. The atmosphere is so warm and rustic and has everything you need! Norma was very friendly and helpful. The garden is absolutely beautiful, with all the flowers in bloom in September. We will definitely return!

Outstanding!
Having spent time in Hogsback on a fairly regular basis for the past 60 years, I am well qualified to say that if one is looking for an outstanding 'old world' experience of what the ambiance of Hogsback represented before the advent of everything modern, then Back of the Moon Cottage is a must.
I concede that two of the bedrooms are off the front veranda that requires a visit inside if the bathroom is required, but this too adds to the old world experience and is not at all an inconvenience.
I'll certainly be returning!

Brilliant location
If you want to explore Hogsback this is a good starting point. Beautiful little house with 3 bedrooms. very simple and down to earth. Lovely fireplace for winter. Lovely garden. The only problem would be that 2 of the bedrooms are outside and one has to go inside to the bathroom. In winter this could become very chilly. The house had lots of personal touches and plenty of books to read and tips on how to spend your time in Hogsback

The layout of the cottage is typical of the time period it was built in (1935). All the old farm houses were along that style.....and we wanted to keep it in the vintage style.

Great stay at the BackO' the Moon cottage

The best kept secret holiday accommodation in Hogsback
Having visited Hogsback many times of the past 20 odd years, we gathered our family of 4 "children" (in their 30s!) to celebrate the matriarch's 70th birthday at Back of the Moon. An unforgettable weekend in the cosiest of cottages - with a wood fire for the cold evenings. The attention to detail with personal service was reflective of caring hosts.

A piece of Heavan on Earth
I travelled to Hogsback with friends where we enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Back o the Moon. The accomodation was fantastic. The cottage was perfect - and the owner even lit a fire for us when the evenings cooled down .We loved the garden tours - especially because "our " garden was one of the gardens on show. Thank you on behalf of the 6 ladies who had a great weekend in a beautiful, peaceful and serene "home away from home". Thank you to our lovely owners who made sure that we enjoyed our stay. They were eager to help us with advise on visiting local sites, and we loved the warm muffins each morning!I recommend this accomodation to those who want to find calmness and peace. First Anniversary Holiday
My Wife and I stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and absolutely loved it! It came highly recommended from my parents who have stayed before and received the same world class experience, a real cottage feel away from any noise or light pollution! I highly recommend this for anyone looking for comfortable accommodation in Hogsback. The establishment feels like a home and all the comforts that come with! We will be coming back soon!
