Chalford, Stroud, Stroud District, Cotswolds, England
Simple, old-fashioned and cosy with glorious views, and walks from the door to pubs and pristine woodland... balm for a city-dweller's soul, this is the ultimate in romantic hideaway cottages.
Westley Farm is a 200-year old farmstead set high on a clearing above the ancient woodland of the Chalford Valley. The views are splendid in any weather and the wildlife is abundant. Jackdaw cottage lies 400 meters from the farmhouse down a farm track and from here you can see across the meadow to the Cotswold village of Oakridge on the other side of the valley.
The small paved yard at the front of the cottage, enclosed by a Cotswold dry-stone wall, and the stable door betray that it was formerly an old stone cattle shed, lovingly restored by Julian.
You walk in to a cosy living-dining room and small wood-burner beyond. Flagstones shine, woodwo...

About the neighbourhood
Jackdaw cottage looks out across the Golden Valley. The legacy of the valley's industrial past can be seen in the romantic overgrown canal, ivy-clad mill ruins and weavers' cottages; some beautifully restored by the Arts & Crafts movement. These valleys still attract artists and craftsmen with thriving workshops, studios, micro-breweries and cheese-makers to visit or see their products at the award-winning local farmers markets.
Our traditional stone cottages are spread over the farm and have rural views as good as any in England. You can just hear the distant bells of Oakridge church and see the houses peep out of the canopy of trees on the other side of the valley.
At Westley Farm we value our natural environment and manage the land sensitively to encourage wildlife habitats....
