Poggio Mirteto, Province of Rieti, Lazio
Casa Poggio – ‘the house on the hill’ – is set in a peaceful organic olive grove in the Sabine Hills, just 40 miles north of Rome. The views are spectacular – bedrooms face the Umbrian mountains, the living room overlooks the Tiber Valley, and from the dining terrace you can make out St Peter’s on the horizon. The renovated house has thick stone walls, antique terracotta floors, chestnut beams and whitewashed walls. Furniture is simple and comfortable; reading lights good and bookshelves well stocked. Bed linen and mattresses are luxurious. The large kitchen is equipped for serious cooks.

I stayed at Casa Poggio for a week with my mother and two young daughters (4 and 2). It was magical. The house has been restored beautifully and it is a wonderful place to relax and unwind. Management response:

Please do come back - lots more to explore. And a proper pool next summer, fingers crossed

We were there in the height of summer and just relaxed and unwound, but for true luxury go when the autumn mists roll in and the olives are ripe for the...

We found our little corner of heaven at Casa Poggio. We headed there after a couple of heat-fuelled, fun days of slogging round Rome in early September. We arrived in the dark but knew immediately we would love this place; the sound of the crickets, the warm but not insufferable temperature at 9 pm and the scent of the herbs...

Management response:

So glad you all had a lovely time – we look forward to welcoming you back!
