As its name suggests, it is linear in form, stretching for almost a mile along the main road with spurs of development, principally on one side. Long Compton is known for its pretty thatched cottages, warm Cotswold stone walls, ancient church with an unusual lychgate, and above all for its glorious countryside. It is within the boundary of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Beauty and much of the village is protected by conservation area status.

The Village is well situated to visit local towns of historic and special interest, and also to enjoy walks in the beautiful countryside – local area, Macmillan Way, and Shakespeare Way.
