Overview

2 Bedrooms , 2 Bathrooms , Sleeps 4
Reeth, Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire, England
Rose Cottage has a south facing terraced front garden with fantastic views across Swaledale. Entry to the cottage is via a useful porch, designed to accommodate muddy boots and/or for drying off the beloved pet! The kitchen diner is homely and furnished in farmhouse style with a traditional Yorkshire flagged stone floor and an Esse range cooker (same as an Aga). A cosy beamed sitting room provides a relaxing place to 'get away from it all' and relax. There is a utility room which provides space for storing outdoor equipment such as climbing or cycling gear. The stairs lead to a newly refurbished shower room and then upwards on to a separate cloakroom with WC and wash basin. The two double bedrooms are at the front of the house and both provide beautiful views across the dale to the opposing hills. Situated in a lovely quiet and fr... Read more

We loved staying in this lovely little cottage in Marrick. Location is great for exploring Richmond and the smaller villages of the Yorkshire Dales. Since the weather was cool and rainy most days we relied on the Esse Range in the kitchen to keep us...More

Rose Cottage is in a beautiful area with plenty of walks right from the front door. The cottage is very quirky and typical of a Dales cottage (small rooms). When we arrived the Esse cooker had been turned off. This limited our cooking facilities to...More

It is regrettable that despite a good deal of e-mail and telephone correspondence over the first two days of this guests stay due to the fact that the previous guests, against all advice and house rules had turned off the oil fired range cooker which...More

From the moment I arrived at Rose Cottage, I was planning my return visit. The cottage has been owned by the same family for nearly 70 years and is consequently very much loved and very homely. It is wonderfully honest and quirky with lots of...More

About the neighbourhood
Rambling brings most people through the village, which is set on the Coast to Coast Footpath, as Wainwright mentions in his Guide. The village is worth a visit at any time of year, winter in Marrick gives a real feel for winter, hard frosts and snowy hilltops, Spring is a delight with the newborn lambs, and spring flowers, the late summer sees the surrounding heather moors in a blaze of pink and Autumn sees the chimneys smoking again.
The local wildlife is wonderful, with frequent sightings of Hare, badgers, bats and the odd Roe Deer. Bird life is varied with the nesting Waders iincluding curlew, lapwings (with their impressive skydiving courtship), and oyster catchers through the summer; There are numerous pheasant, partridge (including the red legged variety) and grouse on the moor; pre...
