About the neighbourhood
Theotokopoulou street in the old town of Chania, owes its name to the artist Dominikos Theotokopoulos El Greco, famous painter, sculptor and architect born in Crete during the Venetian occupation and later became one of the most important figures of Spanish Renaissance. In Theotokopoulou street is the Venetian church of the monastery of San Salvatore, now Byzantine and Post-Byzantine museum of the city and you will find many examples of Venetian and Turkish architecture. It is also lined with many arts and craft shops where you can buy handmade unique products.
