Main Street Plettenberg Bay still retains a "village" atmosphere, with quirky independent shops, book stores, art galleries, bakeries and some great places to eat. What used to be a service station is now an al fresco food court and market, and the various arcades hide some interesting businesses - the Le Fournil de Plett Bakery in the courtyard of the Lookout Centre is an especially good artisanal bakery and the Village Book Shop has a great selection of new books. Its a nice place to kill a few hours when the weather isn't great or when you have had too much sun and sand.
Beware in season it can get crowded, but out of season it is mostly retirees going about their business.
