Most visitors to Assisi arrive by train. The train station is located 4 km (2.5 miles) outside of the town center. Bus service is provided to the city-center from the rail station every half-hour. There are three bus lines that provide service to and from Assisi and its surrounding area. Line A provides service between Piazza Comune -- Piazza Matteotti -- Stadio Olivi; Line B bewteen Piazza Comune -- Ospendale -- Piazza Unita D'Italia; Line C between Piazza Matteotti -- Santa Maria Angeli -- Assisi Railway Station -- Piazza Garibaldi.
Bus fares are 0.90 cents for a ticket valid for 60 minutes, 0.70 cents for a senior ticket valid for 60 minutes. Books of ten tickets (valid for 60 minutes) can be purchased for 7.70 Euro or 6.70 Euro for seniors. Purchasing a ticket on board the bus costs 1.50 Euro. Do not try to catch a "free" ride -- if a random check finds you ticketless, you will likely have to pay a fee much heftier than the bus fare itself costs. You can purchase tickets for the bus at any tabbachi shop, bar, or newspaper stand.
Once you are within the walled city, don your walking shoes, and enjoy exploring all of the sights Assisi has to offer.
