The Flying Pig eXpress
Ranked #3 of 15 Restaurants in Darling
Price range: US$1 - US$7
Description: The Flying Pig is about 3 things - coffee, charcuterie and locally sourced deli products. Proprietors Gil and Aleks Ferreira are also the owners of The Flying Pig CureSmiths, producing artisanal cured meats, ranging from salami, parma style hams, cooked hams, fresh sausages and bacon jam. The CureSmith, or charcuterie, is also situated on the premises, and visitors can see directly into the bespoke curing chamber to view how the curing process takes place. Much of the produce in the Deli at The Flying Pig is also locally sourced - so much so that The Flying Pig has become known as the 'Darling Deli." From cheese, exotic mushrooms, pomegranate ice lollies, reductions, nougat, Turkish delight, farm style preserves, interesting toffees (like Darling Sweet toffees) and rusks to so much more! The coffee, known as The Flying Pig blend, is also close to their heart and is produced by local west coast Wings Coffee Roasters. The establishment of The Flying Pig is the marriage of all these wonderful products with Charcuterie at its heart! Come and enjoy wonderful fare in a lovely garden setting, right in the heart of wonderful Darling - and finish off your meal with arguably the best coffee in the Swartland! Gil and Aleks Ferreira look forward to receiving you!

We visited this place on 8 January - still holiday in South Africa. It was open or was it. We were greeted by a person on her cell at a desk. We wanted some cooldrinks, but there was not a soul to serve us. People were hanging around outside - it was unclear whether they were waiters or not. The person on the cell did not even look up or notice when we walked out. The whiff from the front of the restaurant was not appetising. The locals were shocked when we shared our experience.

Dear Heszu,
Thank you for your review. I am completely shocked by this as from our reviews you can clearly see we have never even received a 3 star review! I will immediately take this up with my staff. We do run 2 establishments in Darling and it was probably on a day that both my wife and I were out. This is no excuse as our staff are trained well and should know better. I really apologise because this is not our standard!
Warm regards,
Gil

We had a great coffee and snack here. Next to the book shop with a nice little garden in front to sit in. Excellent menu and great place to sit and relax.

Thank you very much. Not often when people say their Carrot cake is delicious that it really is. Awesome cappuccino and delicious moist carrot cake. Most friendliest person we met in Darling.
Keep it up.

Thank Jan L

We have a lovely afternoon with kids at the Flying Pig, new restaurant for Darling Brewery. The restaurant are a bit out of town in a location you wouldn't normally expect a restaurant, just past Evita's Parron . But the whole place are fenced in, and once inside you feel the country experience. Great play gim to entertain the kids, we sat outside on the deck and had a great time!
The food was especially good, burgers, ribs, pulled pork type of thing, but really tasty and not ordinary. Chips are especially wholesome!
And of course the beer are tops!

We enjoyed some really tasty bacon for breakfast at the Marmalade Cat and on inquiring its provenance, was told it came from the Flying Pig! We resolved there and then to buy some of this super bacon to take back with us. While we were there, we also bought some smoked ham - just wish this shop were c.oser to our home town!
