Description: Graze by the River is a coffee bar and bistro situated in one of the original 1820 settler's home next to the banks of the Kowie River in Port Alfred. The venue boasts a private garden area at the back of the property where you can escape from the busy Van der Riet street at the front of the property and enjoy freshly roasted coffee or sample some of the many homemade dishes on offer. The menu is based on locally available produce from fresh seafood, smoked meats and organic vegetables grown in the garden on site, interesting tasty dishes are supplemented by daily specials. The restaurant has its own smoker for preparing a lot of the dishes and the coffee bar roasts its own green beans daily ensuring good quality fresh coffee. So whether your looking for a great breakfast, some coffee and cake or a tasty homemade meal come and enjoy the experience of Graze by the River. Evening meals are strictly by reservation and we are closed on Wednesday.

We were recommended by some friends who said that they would eat there every night if they could, thought they might be exaggerating...not!

Nick is passionate about food and ingredients and every mouthful tells you that your food has been cooked by someone who loves to eat.

We recently spent time along the Garden Route and on the day we were in Port Alfred we were delighted to have breakfast in this special little place.
It is an old curiosity shop/ restaurant. We sat in the shaded garden, the owners dogs snuffled around and all was well with the world. Tranquility and peacefulness.
A delightful waitress served us eggs Benedict and homemade muffins with beautiful coffee. The owner, Nick, took the trouble to chat with us. We really wanted to return to enjoy an evening meal, but time as against us and we missed out. However on my return to this beautiful country I have got a stop off at this little gem earmarked!

We drank coffee here and ate a fabulous cake, but it was not enough to eat just for the meal. The ambiete, the friendliness, the great service cause the time we were allowed to spend with Grace incomparable.

Whilst staying with friends in Port Alfred before Xmas we discovered this little gem, and ate there several times. The charming shabby-chic premises are run by Nick and his wife. She sells delightful eclectic gifts in the shop at the front whilst Nick cooks amazing food at the back. The fresh fish and meat are prepared imaginatively and it is difficult to choose as all the menu items are enticing. We also enjoyed a couple of breakfasts in the garden. I highly recommend this delightful affordable restaurant, and hope to return from U.K. before too long.
