Don't skip out on the hummingbird garden at Selvatura Adventure Park. We visited it after our canopy tour. The hummingbirds are very tame and will sit on your finger while they drink from the feeders. It was an awesome experience!

Dear jasperlove:
We thank you for the review but we are afraid you placed it on the wrong location. We are located in Monteverde and selvatura is not located in Monteverde, not even in the same province. They are in Guanacaste and they do have a hummingbird area too.
We have the Monteverde Hummingbird Gallery owned by famous British photographers and biologists, Michael & Patricia Fogden. Inside the souvenir shop there's a gallery with their pictures used by National Geographics and out side we have feeders with not much sugar so that hummingbirds don't get sick and do crazy things when they get drunk like standing on people's fingers. It is not right for them.
However, perhaps you can change your review and if not, we thank you any way and we are glad to know you went to the other side of the mountain range on the Caribbean side and had a great time.
Have a nice week.
Sincerely yours,
Martin & Maruja

This is also known as the Galerie de Colibries it’s located near the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve kitty corner from the Reserve restaurant and hostel. There is a cafe with coffee , teas and empanadas & a store with art and postcards . But most importantly there are maybe 6 or more always filled hummingbird feeders and lots and lots of hummingbirds. I saw at least 7 kinds of hummingbirds, plus some other birds and a family costamundis wandered thru also. You can sit on the benches ,watch ,photograph , and enjoy the birds. Both times I visited I never even made it into the park so all I paid was for my postcards, tea and empanada. I have visited in the pouring rain and when it was sunny and it was fantastic both times. I did drop some money in the donation box for hummingbird food. If you hate birds don’t come here but otherwise it’s a fantastic place to bird and animal watch. There is a cheap bus here to and from Santa Elena several times a day.
Dear jronkowski:
Your review is excellent and so informative. Thank you for investing some quality time sharing your experience with the TA community and reviewing us.
The Hummingbird Gallery has nothing to do with the coffee shop but I am sure the owners really appreciate your comment also.
There are between 7-9 different hummingbird species seen at the Gallery almost every day. The Gallery of pictures taken by Michael and Patricia Fogden are located inside the shop and are the same original photographs used by National Geographics. I hope you had time to step in and see those amazing shots.
We are so glad to know you were able to ID some 7 species, well done. Hopefully you will be able to come back and see the species you did not see this first time. There's a little bird that is always on the feeders and it is not a hummingbird, but he thinks he is, it is called the Bananaquit, just in case you saw that small yellowish fellow around.
Have a fantastic rest of the year.
Gratefully yours,
Martin and Maruja

These are basically hummingbird feeders outside the shop and coffee shop, just out the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. You can sit, have a coffee / lunch and watch the birds for as long as you like. Great way to relax after a hike through the forest or just worth the trip in its own right.
Dear ciaramangan:
Thank you so much for your review and sharing it with the TA community.
The Hummingbird Gallery is actually a gallery of photographs inside the souvenir shop and the feeders outside in the garden surrounded by the cloud forest. We do not have a coffee shop but we understand that people think it is the same business. The pictures were used by National Geographics and were taken by the owners of the Gallery, Michael and Patricia Fogden from the UK.
We are glad to know you enjoyed the hummingbirds right outside and the next door business as well.
Hopefully you were able to get some nice pictures or slow motion videos.
Have a great 2018 and hope to see you again.
Gratefully yours,
Martin & Maruja
Monteverde Hummingbird Gallery
Well worth the fee to spend time with these beautiful birds which will actually perch on your finger as they drink nectar. So colorful and peaceful.
Dear Bessan:
We are thankful that you decided to write a review but we think you wrote it on the wrong location.
We are the Monteverde Hummingbird Gallery and there's no entrance fee. this place has been here for decades and the photograph gallery is inside our souvenir shop and it is all for free. We are very careful with nature so hummingbirds do not stand on people's fingers unless they are drunk which only happens if you place too much sugar with the water. Right now we have been working on getting less and less sugar so the hummingbirds will little by little go back to flowers and enjoy pollinating flower like they are supposed to.
I think you went to selvatura and perhaps you had no idea you were not in Monteverde. Selvatura has feeders for hummingbirds and they are located in Guanacaste and not in this province and of course not in the cloud forest of Monteverde.
We appreciate your review and sharing with the TA community but perhaps you would like to change your comment to the right place.
Have a great week and thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Martin & Maruja

If you love birds, you will love this garden. Basically it is a large space with a couple dozen hummingbird feeders that make dozens of birds come and feed at once. If you are patient enough, we put our arms out between a couple feeders and waited a couple minutes, and some hummingbirds would land on your arm between feeding. You have to be very still and patient but definitely worth it. You can spend as much or as little time as you want but we stayed for about 15 minutes. Some purple, brown and green hummingbirds. Great photos.
Dear jepi86:
We would like to thank you for the review but we are afraid you posted this in the wrong location.
Perhaps you went to another place where they allow people to touch hummingbirds and they have many feeders.
Here we have an environmentally friendly Photo Gallery with a small souvenir shop that supports our indigenous ancestors
by selling many of their master pieces. We do have a few feeders outside where hummingbirds have been coming for decades.
We are located in the Monteverde community right next to the entrance to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve.
It will be nice for you to visit us if you ever find yourself in Monteverde.
Have a wonderful time and thanks for the review.

Went there on the way to Monteverde Cloud Forest and I have to admit that it was much more interesting than the 2-3 hours cloud forest tour for more than 20 USD.
It’s for free and you have a 100% guarantee to watch lots of humming birds from close, very close.
Please support the stuff with a donation or by buying some food.
Would be a pity if they have to close that nice location.
Dear Markus K:
Thank you very much for sharing your experience with the TripAdvisor community.
It is sad to know your guide did not deliver a good tour in the cloud forest but we are glad our free small Photo Gallery and Souvenir shop
was a great location for you to see the hummingbirds.
We do have a few feeders and for over 30 years have been providing the free service to all our visitors and even to all the guides.
Our small shop does not sell any food so we guess you are talking about the coffee place next door.
However donations are accepted because we do have to protect the hummingbirds and are recently starting a difficult process to study the hummingbirds and provide the kind of flowers they need to feed instead of feeders.
It won't be easy but it is necessary to ensure the living quality of the cloud forest inhabitants.
Have a wonderful rest of the year and thank you for your visit and your really nice review.
Gratefully yours,
Martin & Maruja
