Unfortunately during our week stay in Lucignano we found that most of the Churches are closed or at the most have very erratic opening times so it is impossible to know when you might find them open .. we managed to visit this open and were surprised by the frescoes and the lightness of the internal architecture if you get lucky and its open worth a visit

This lovely church with a facade made out of travertine and gray sandstone (pieta serena) and a rose window in the center is the heart of the town where young and old gather in front to chat and play. The interior with a single nave has a collection of frescoes from the 15th and 16th C including some scenes from the life of St Francis however the most unusual is the fresco on top of the altar "The Triumph of Death by Bartolo"; a black horse in full gallop carrying a man dressed in black.

Another amazing local church not to miss for those lucky enough to discover the wonderful town of Lucignano. All 13 of us enjoyed looking around the church. So nice to be off the tourist track and just enjoy the peace of a wonderful Italian village and its churches.

We briefly visited this church one afternoon, and probably spent about three minutes in here . There wasn't a great deal inside, and the frescos which adorned the walls were badly worn away.
