We walked part of the gorge, had a picnic and walked back as we have a child that wouldn't have walked all the way there and back. It's a beautiful place, free parking on the road and the red hop on an off tour bus from Rethymno stops here. At the start of the walk there are some steps and a path leads to a tiny church carved into the rocks, beautiful. There are several small churches on the path and lots of wild flowers were in bloom in spring. A small cafe was open and there are picnic stops with tables etc. There is an abandoned village, probably due to landslides and you can walk in the ruins. I liked the pulley system to transport goods across the valley. Good bird watching; ravens, buzzards, kestrels etc.

We took the red hop-on/off to the gorge. Easy access to a tranquil, green and lush walk along the small creek down at the gorge. Halfway is a small tavern. In April the climate is nice, not to warm, the tavern only serve some coffee and icecream, not the full menu. We brought fruits, water and crackers. You don't have to be an athlete but put on sturdy shoes.

We stopped off from the City bus tour to walk down through here. A very pleasant, peaceful couple of hours and a quirky taverna at the bottom. Get prepared beforehand with sensible footwear, water etc and maybe a little research, so that you know what to look for and what you are looking at. Met some people who were actually walking UP the gorge. Rather them than me

We took the Rethymno hop on/hop off bus to the Gorge of Mili stop, which is right by one of the two entrances to the south of the Gorge (entrance 2 on the map). Take the steps down and then follow the path round into the gorge. You’ll pass a cafe near the top (you’ll see the pulley zip wire which is used to get supplies across from the road!). It’s not a long walk - took us about an hour to get to the top, very manageable to come straight back again once reached to hop back on the bus. It is predominantly downhill on the way out, rocky in places, but fine with trainers/walking boots. You’ll pass a couple of waterfalls and streams and can hear the peaceful trickle of water all the way around. A very pleasant morning’s trip.

We went first to the town of chromastiri(?) and from there took the 'old path' and walked down towards the gorge and got in already at the first entry (we were told most to the second). It was very pretty and also a good change of landscapes; sometimes rocky, sometimes greener and then of course youll encounter small ruins and old watermills or a tiny waterfall on the way which add to the experience! There were only like 6 other people walking it simultaneously, although i think that was sheer luck, i wouldnt count on being that alone when doing it. Good lenght (ca. 2 hours) and also there are some benches for stops along the way. Take water, wear good shoes (we saw some girls in sandals and then never saw them again so they probably turned around which is the only sensible thing to do if that unprepared) and be aware that it goes downhill a lot (if you have knee problems or so). But it was a very beautyful and cool experience! We went by cab though, public transport is i think rather upsetting around rethymno
