“Pretty beach but not worth the ride there”

Not worth it. The island is beautiful in its own rights but definitely not worth the 1 hour plus of travelling here to see it. Go to pereybere or ile aux cerf instead. The island is really small and there’s simply nothing much to do there. It’s pretty but simply not worth it.

When you approach this island on the catamaran, it truly is breathtaking. Simply stunning, there are many other cats around but just looking at this glorious island brings joy. Then you get on the island. What a disappointment! No shade, unless you willing to pay a fortune for loungers and an umbrella. Which there are not too many of anyway. The island unfortunately has the human tourist element to it, so lots of litter. I even almost stood on a piece of broken glass! We struggled to find a nice place to sit on the beach, we then baked in the sun while we waited for the rest of our family to snorkel. As soon as they were done we hightailed it back to the catamaran. I wish I had just looked at the island from the boat. It would then still have been beautiful. Tourist trap indeed!

If in catamaran cruise this is a stop where they leave you for about an hour or two to spend time. There is nothing great about the place apart from the fact that it's a serene place which has not been commercialised yet. The greatest drawback no restrooms or changing rooms available whatever needs to be done should be done behind the bushes. If at Mauritius again this will be a definite NO also please note the beds available are chargeable.

Îlot us a French word means small island. The Gabriel island is situated in Indian ocean and surrounded by reef, corals and various sea life.

We we have taken catamaran Cruise to travel this location. The journey is breathtaking. Thanks ocean water is ink blue in colour. How were the moment we approach near the island, due to various controls and depth the colour of the water changes. It is an eye savouring moment and view to relish long. One would like to capture the photogenic scene so that you can relish it later on.

Went with catamaran with family. Had the 58 seater with maybe 25 on board so ample seating for all. All shoes, savettes etc had to be taken off and put in a box, you get them back once you get to the island.

The guys from royal catamaran started serving drinks not long after we took off. Bit of advice if your not used to choppy waters don't drink alcohol or go down below to the bathroom, your stomach will thank you for it later on.

We got to ilot Gabriel about 1 hour 40 mins later, a motorised dinghy dropped us off at the beach. Don't forget your shoes, the sand was scorching hot.

The beach and water itself is pristine, a lot of people were snorkelling, swimming others were baking in the sun and.just relaxing.

Lunch and drinks were served at 12.30 just some bbq fish, chicken, sausage, salads and drinks.

There are no shops at all on this island nor are there any bathrooms. If you have to go, go before you leave the boat. Have to say there were a number of people going to relieve themselves further away from the beach.

It takes an hour and a bit to walk around Gabriel island if you prefer walking to swimming.

We got picked up by the boat just after 2pm, most people were either sleeping or just relaxing back in the catamaran. More drinks were served and some cake and banana.

Got back to Grand Baie just after 4pm.

Was an enjoyable day with nothing to do apart from swim and relax.

A few tips
Wear and bring sunscreen and a hat
Take your shoes with you
Bring water (even though you get glasses, you get dehydrated easily)
As you would with any touristic place, protect your valuables.
