I read several reviews of this place before visiting Bali and it was one of the many things that we wanted to do on our two week trip. The place looked amazing with views over the cliff, a great place to chill out for the day.
We were staying in Uluwatu for 4 days and arranged to come here on a Tuesday, we didn’t book as we didn’t think it would be that busy. We arrived by bluebird taxi at around 11am with no issues and the friendly reception staff asked whether we wanted to just come in for few hours or spend the day here. We initially said a few hours and they kindly let us in for free. We quickly decided that we actually would spend a whole day here and it would be better getting a daybed so that we can leave our stuff unattended while we enjoy the pool etc. The bed cost 1,200,000 + tax and service so about 1,500,000 in total which was a minimum spend at the bar. There was two of us and for the day we didn’t think that was too bad. More expensive than the rest of Bali but for the location and facilities nothing you wouldn’t expect. You could spend that all on food and drink at the bar so pretty good for a days leisure.
It soon got busier with most the daybeds filling up. We would advise booking in advance if you are planning to come here so that you get a daybed. It soon gets busy on the bridge for taking photos as well so take them early in the day.
We stayed until just after sunset and had a really good day with nice food. The poke bowls and toasties were good value for money. When we left we ordered a bluebird taxi via the app but had read it can be difficult for them to pick you up due to a local taxi mafia intimidating drivers as they arrive and therefore can’t get past the security gates. We therefore decided to walk up past the security gate to wait for our taxi.
When our taxi arrived we quickly got in but the taxi mafia punched on our car immediately threatening the driver by the looks of it as he had his hands raised while the gang who were all wearing bandanas covering their faces shouted at him and took photos of the car. He said he couldn’t pick us up here as they apparently were not allowed. We had heard about this taxi mafia gang and that they wanted 200k-300k to take us to the hotel which in any other taxi was 50k. We obviously didn’t want to get in a taxi with them as they were quite intimidating so we told the taxi driver we would walk for a bit then get picked up further away. We got out and quickly walked away. We walked about five mins and then we met the taxi (bluebird) and got in a went home. Bluebird Uber and grab are not illegal here but this local mafia firm just intimidate them so they are scared to pick people up. We wouldn’t have minded getting a local taxi if they didn’t extort tourists by over 5 times the price. Omnia security appear to be in on it as they don’t seem to care and point you to the mafia taxis. Although outside of the venue omnia as a brand should take more responsibility in ensuring guests enjoy themselves and are safe, even after leaving the venue. Security staff should be allowing taxis to enter the venue and pick up directly outside where they drop you off.
Would recommend omnia as a day out for anyone but would advise trying to arrange a taxi home before you go to try and avoid what happened to us.
