Had a Great weekend ,hotel just a little walk away from playita beach which was just right
for the kids the wife and i.
Shara the owner was so helpful in explaining where we could go gave a us a good tip on which tour company to take to get to El Limon waterfall.
Hotel was just amazing log type build house, kids loved it.
Had all the kitchen stuff you need to cook at home, as the local restaurants where not good what so ever .
So get your own food and have a great BBQ at the Chalet which provides a grill ..
Advice : Fill up with fuel in Samana and get all your shopping for food done also, as there is not good shops after Samana and no service stations ..
One morning, about a week into our 16 day stay, my girlfriend Sherene and I were lazing on the porch of Chalet #1, trying to decide what we wanted to do that day. We were both being a bit indecisive, but the bottom line was it didn't really matter what we chose to do that day; we knew, without question, that it would be another amazing day; a day we would want to savor and hold onto, a day filled with wonderful sights, sounds, feelings, and, of course, the uncommon and inspiring warmth and friendliness of the people of Las Galeras. On this day, we knew we were extra lucky when we saw Sarah, the proprietor of Chalet Tropical, strolling across the green grass of the grounds toward our chalet, her ever-present smile leading her way. She may have been coming over just to say "hello", she may have been coming over to tell us about another excursion / dining adventure that she didn't want us to miss out on, or she may have been coming over to see if her cat, Garfield, was with us; which, on this particular day, he most certainly was. Sarah is always available, but, it is really a treat when you get to sit down with her for an extended conversation about Las Galeras, about her and her incredible family's life, about life in general. She has a wonderfully contagious, positive outlook on life, as does the rest of her family (who all reside on the premises) and it is precisely this warm and welcoming vibe that pervades the whole of Chalet Tropical. On this particular morning the three of us got into a discussion of Chalet Tropical, and Sherene and I really wanted to convey just how much peace and beauty the place itself had enveloped us in and surrounded us with; now I know this might all sound a bit flowery and over-the-top, but as we tried to explain this feeling to Sarah, she wasn't a bit surprised or taken aback. In fact, she hears it all the time and, in residing there, feels it all the time. There is a kind of real magic in the symbiotic relationship between Las Galeras and its unspoiled and most genuine persona and people, the breathtakingly beautiful natural wonders of the beaches, water, and greenery and the warm comfort of a relaxing and soothing home base that is Chalet Tropical. It doesn't take long at all to realize that you were lucky to find it and smart to book it. So the conversation went, and as it meandered on it struck me that it seemed just as likely that we were discussing a "philosophy" as discussing a "place". Finally, Sarah had to excuse herself as she had other things to attend to and Sherene and I slowly got back to deciding what adventure we would embark on that day; knowing full well that we couldn't go wrong. We read all the reviews on this site before coming, as I recommend you do. I believe you will notice a distinct trend. You will, also, find all the details I have left out about the wonderful people and places, exotic excursions and delicious food, and the makeup of Chalet Tropical - both the physical and the familial - Sarah's wonderful immediate and extended (all the amazing people who work with her) family. I could write a whole guidebook given all the details. But, since you will find these praises sung over and over again in the other reviews I thought I'd detail one lazy morning over coffee, conversation, and a distinct feeling of connection; a connection to a family, a connection to a community, a connection to a sense of well-being, and a connection to a "place" that you will never forget and that you will long to return to. As I said to Sarah that beautiful morning that seems so long ago, Chalet Tropical is really more than just a place...It is a state of mind. So go experience it for yourself. You'll be forever glad you did!
