Three Generation Getaway at the Morukuru Beach Lodge

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 Oct 2024
Our stay at the Morukuru Family De Hoop Nature Reserve was spectacular!
Stunning coastal views, elegant design combined with the family style of Morukuru which we love so much.
Every meal a highlight, the service always so attentive and heartfelt, the excursions fun and at the same time informational.
We left with full hearts and a hope to return.
Highly recommended to anyone looking for an amazing ocean break!

Stayed at Morakuru for 3 nights. Most beautiful accommodation. Someone reviewed this lodge and said there was only a hand shower which is nonsense. There is an amazing rain shower as well as a great hand shower and the shower itself is exquisite with light coming in from the sky. We so enjoyed watching the behaviours of whales and baby whales from the large glass windows in one’s own suite. At times I could see 3 different whales in my binoculars. The food is good but quite creamy although that might be to some people’s taste. A big plus is that one can have lunch at Bites café just a few minutes walk away, as it is owned by Morakuru. The carrot cake is exceptional!
The rockpool marine activity is fascinating and we were so excited when our guide found an octopus. We were also impressed with our gentle guide, Hilton’s, knowledge of the flora when we did the Fynbos walk. He also is extremely knowledgeable about the traditional medicinal/healing powers of the flora.

Thank you very much for your review and feedback after your recent stay at Morukuru Beach Lodge, which offers some of the best land-based whale watching in Africa from early July until end of October. The marine walk at low tide is a firm favorite for many of our guests and it gets even better when your guide manages to find you an Octopus. We hope you will cherish your memories for a long time and we look forward to welcoming you back one day.

Warmest regards from all of us at Morukuru Family.

I just came back from my babymoon with my husband and man oh man, I am recharged and ready for what’s next..

We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite and wow, what a room! Best views, so private and so spacious and clean!

The staff were phenomenal and always ready to give a helping hand! As an expecting mom - safety was too a priority and I honestly felt so safe. It’s such a beautiful environment, seeing about 7/6 whales whilst having breakfast was always a good idea!

I loved our time at Morukuru and we simply can’t wait to get back!

Thank you so much for your review and feedback after your recent 'babymoon' stay at Morukuru Beach Lodge. We are very happy to hear that you had such a nice time. And yes, it is prime whale watching season in De Hoop Nature Reserve right now, with lots of whales visible at any time. It is some of the best land-based whale watching in the world really.
Our team enjoyed hosting you and we look forward to welcoming you back, with the little one!

What an extraordinary place. The remote setting, the proximity to the water, the beauty of the ocean, beaches and brush. The incredible richness of the animal life, from the tiny to the large, the sounds of the waves, wind and bird calls. Everything conspires to make this a place of utter peace and tranquility. And that is before mentioning the lodge, which is in itself is a wonder, not the least because of the staff that are kind, helpful and personable, from management onward (a shout out to Hilton from the three kids!). The physical plant is great, overlooking the ocean from every window, with beautifully appointed, spacious rooms. The activities were all fun, stimulating and very varied-from fantastic tide pools to jeep rides in search of the large mammals and birds that populate the reserve. And the meals are just spectacular, with every need catered to, beautiful and delicious. There was not a single meal that did not leave us smiling! Our whole family cannot say enough about this wondrous place. Thank you to everyone at the lodge for making our stay so memorable!

I loved loved loved my time here and was so sad to leave it. The rooms are to die for and the people are just lovely. Excellent food and service. 100% perfection. It's a long drive to get there down the dirt roads but worth every mile! Will be back for certain.

Room tip: They no longer have a roof top pool but there is one on the ground floor
