“Long and thorough review of Wyndham and National Harbor”
Reviewed 15 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

So, we stayed in two different suites within this Wyndham. We stayed in their 4 bedroom presidential suite which was lovely, and their 3 bedroom suite, which wasn't as fancy, but had a nice layout, was clean, and comfy. We had originally booked a 3 bedroom, but were offered an upgrade to the 4 bedroom for an extra fee of $150 ( I received wonderful service from Joyce Kehoe Smith at Resort Stay- she and Victoria Holloway were my main point people for all of these reservations) and jumped on it for it was a good deal and gave our fifth student her own room versus having to sleep on a pull out couch. We ended up having to stay an extra night due to weather conditions and the 4 bedroom wasn't available and needed to spend our last night in the 3 bedroom.

We were a group of 7, five students (teenagers) and 2 adults. The suite was clean and spacious and allowed plenty of room for all of us. Most of the time we congregated in the kitchen or people spent time in their own rooms. Two of the rooms had Jacuzzi tubs and they were amazing- plenty of hot water and strong jets- very relaxing. Each room had a television. I found my bed extremely comfortable- even the pillows were great- no cricked neck in the morning. We had a nice view of the harbor and the ferris wheel while in the 4 bedroom suite.

The 4 bedroom suite had some minor issues when we arrived. The ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms whined when it ran for more than 10 minutes and the shared bathrooms had pocket doors and one of them didn't shut properly and so privacy was an issue (especially since the shower in there was glass and see through.

I called guest services and gave them permission to fix the minor issues while we were at our conference and they took care of it immediately. I was happy with their prompt response.

One minor complaint- maybe not so minor, is that for a four bedroom suite designed to hold between 4- 10 people, we were only given free wi-fi access for 4 devices. This was a challenge traveling with teenagers who brought laptops and cell phones. One of our students went to the IT department and got an Ethernet cable so that he could download a movie. We couldn't find an Ethernet jack in the suite so he found a jack by IT and sat there for 2 hours downloading a movie.

The three bedroom has a nice layout, but way less bathrooms- three of us had to share one bath/shower and the bathroom was fine but so ordinary compared to what was in the 4 bedroom suite. When we stayed the extra night guest services did give us an extra wi-fi code, but that still left 2 people without wifi. The view was of construction, but we weren't there for the view so it didn't matter.

We did not use room service. We shopped at Potomoc Gourmet (if you stay at Wyndham you get 10% off at this small grocer). They had a pretty decent selection of food and we did the bulk of our eating in suite to save money. It worked great. The kitchen in both suites were clean and serviceable.

Most of us did take advantage of the pool and work out room. The pool was small with a Jacuzzi beside it. The workout room was small but well equipped.

We were in town for a conference at the Gaylord resort and conference center which was a 2 minute walk from the Wyndham. National harbor itself is a weird little make-believe kind of town. It looks like a movie set. It is hard to believe that anyone really lives there. That being said, it is close to DC, has a nice selection of restaurants, a fun ferris wheel, some cool street art, and we found a taxi service run by a guy named Estafanos who can get 8 people to DC for $30 (here is his contact info: 703-531-9815). He needs reminders, but he was dependable, affordable, and even took our left over food from our suite off our hands on our final day so that we didn't need to throw it all out! Uber may be cheaper if you have less people.

Overall we were very pleased with our accomodations. One final note, they do not offer on-site reservations. The resort is set up like a time share. So in order to make any changes to your room you need to contact the person you booked it through. This was confusing at first, but not an issue because as I mentioned earlier, Joyce and Victoria were amazingly responsive and helpful.

Hi Ananda,

Thank you so much for your thorough review! We're so glad you and the students had a great time in National Harbor. We've also used Estefanos before and he's definitely a good contact to have!

Thanks again and we'd love to help you with any future accommodations you may need.
