I first visited the Strathmore Arms many years ago when staying at a cottage in Holwick. It's under new management now and we decided to stay for the weekend to get away from the pressures of work and study.
Dave and Angela, the new Landlords, have done an excellent job of revitalising the place, making some significant improvements and ensuring a warm welcome. We had a great time there and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I understand that you can also camp in the field behind the pub.
The Strathmore Arms is a delighful old country pub in the tiny village of Holwick, near Middleton in Teesdale. Holwick feels remote and is a great place to 'get away from it all', with superb views of Teesdale and Holwick Scars. It's great for walking and sight-seeing, being on the Pennine way and only a few miles from High Force. Middleton in Teesdale is just three miles away.
The pub has well appointed and comfortable rooms, good (if a little basic) food, a relaxed atmosphere and Dave and Angela couldn't do enough to make us feel at home - they even let us bring our cat along! The locals are a great bunch too.
