“What a wonderful stay!”
Reviewed 8 December 2015 for a stay in December 2015

We stayed at Dane Cottage for a long weekend to attend a wedding. What a lovely place! The location is beautiful, and the cottage is just lovely. Everything was provided, even a jug of milk in the fridge for our arrival - and there was even a Christmas tree in the cottage to welcome us in! Hilary was so friendly and helpful, and it was lovely to meet Bailey and the new dog who had just arrived last week! So much local information was provided, and we are hoping to get back soon and spend more time exploring the area!

Fabulous. Can't express highly enough how beautiful the cottage and surrounding area is. Hilary is lovely and provides such a warm welcome along with Bailey. The price is sensational taking into account everything. Only there one night, so ventured to a lovely little pub called 'The Castle Inn' which did lovely food and had a nice coal fire burning.
DIdn't want to leave! Will make sure a return is planned very soon.

Thanks Hilary and Bailey for such a lovely stay!!

“Brilliant accommodation!”
Reviewed 16 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Hilary appeared from the backwoods of a huge garden on our arrival, welcomed us and gave a brief tour of the cottage which included instructions on adjusting the heating controls, emphasising that we should ensure we were warm enough. It was evident that enjoying our stay was her main concern and we were made to feel very welcome.

The property itself was wonderful – larger than expected and beautifully equipped with quality furniture. The superking bed was much appreciated, as was the powerful shower which dispensed plentiful quantities of hot water. We also liked the kneehole desk/drawers next to the bed, ideal for using a laptop. Wi-fi was 100% and any previous issues have obviously been resolved. The sitting area is furnished with a large leather sofa and matching armchair, flat screen wall-mounted TV, chest of drawers, large coffee table, wardrobe and a small table between kitchen and bathroom doorways.

A door separates the kitchen from the bed/sitting room, useful for containing cooking odours. It is fitted with a hob and oven, cooker hood, double sink, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and enclosed central heating boiler. Cupboards above and below the worktops contain everything needed for cooking, serving and eating a meal, and for cleaning up any mess afterwards!

The dining area at the far end of the kitchen is furnished with a round table and four chairs. It is on a lower level than the kitchen floor (about 8 inches) but is well lit with wall and overhead lights. An external door leads out to a small secluded patio area containing a circular table and two chairs.

The cottage is the best equipped we have ever rented, with videos, board games, hairdryer, iron/ironing board, toiletries, extra bedding, cleaning cloths and materials, kitchen utensils, cutlery, glassware, crockery and a cupboard stocked with items such as salt/pepper, sauces, tea, coffee, sugar, oil, vinegar and sweeteners. The welcome basket was also much appreciated.

The gardens, which we were free to explore, are beautifully laid out and most parts are well established with shrubs, plants and trees. They form a circular border of varying widths and sizes around the very large pond (perhaps it should be called a lake?) which is inhabited by wildlife and can be fished by guests. The far side, opposite the main house and cottage, is a work in progress but has the basics already in place.

Entry from the main road can be a bit tight depending on vehicle size. The drive is gated at the house end and parking is well off-road so is quite secure.

We walked miles - into Congleton twice, both ends of the Biddulph Valley trail and both directions along the canal towpath, our longest being the hike to Bosley lock 12 and back. Biddulph Grange NT gardens were well worth the footslog and we only used the car twice, once to get to the other eleven Bosley locks and the other to buy groceries and petrol at the enormous and newish Sainsburys at Biddulph.

All in all a fabulous holiday cottage run by Hilary and Andrew, who gave us all the help we needed and made us feel so welcome. Last but not least – Bailey, who turned up on the doorstep each morning for his doggie biscuit, provided by Hilary in a tin under the sink! A lovely, friendly dog!

“Quiet getaway for couples”
Reviewed 6 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Upon arrival, my girlfriend and I were immediately met by Hilary, who gave us a short introduction to the accommodation. Though brief, it was enough to both give us an idea, and give us the time to settle in. We also met her cute dog, Bailey, who is always there to keep visitors safe.
The home is lovely; equally cosy and spacious, and decorated for both comfort and business purposes alike. It has plenty of basic amenities for use, given you can't or won't be visiting any shops the moment you arrive, and the house itself is very clean & neat. I could go on, but in short, they provided everything needed, and even a little extra (such as milk & cereal).
The hosts themselves, Hilary & Andrew, were very welcoming, and available for if you ever needed anything. And Bailey gave the place a charm and character, making the place memorable and even keep you entertained. The ground contains a vast area filled with a lake and surrounding delightfully natural sights; it will ensure a peaceful walk, that is easy on the eye.
Congleton town itself, as well as various attractions, are a bit of a walk away, and so it's probably best suited for those with a form of transport; be it their own car, or hiring a taxi. However, there is a quaint walk, less than five minutes up the road, that will guarantee you enjoying a lovely couple of hours. Not to mention the beautiful canal walk not too far away, of which leads to Congleton - of which is the scenic route, rather than the shorter main road.
Overall, it's a beautiful place, with some friendly hosts, and was a well-invested trip. We certainly think that it's worth a re-visit in the future.
