Excellent choice

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 19 Aug 2023
We stayed with our family for three nights. We were given two seperate very nice rooms, which were very clean and with good quality bedding. This was no extra fee even though we initially booked one family room. Breakfast and dinner were very good! We had no load shedding because they had solar power stored. Every evening a nice fire to sit around and this is also where a part of the food was made. Good wines and drinks. A quick lunch was no problem and very good. Vincent and Toni were always around for questions, a good tip or just a nice chat. They were very knowledgeable. We did some really good tours via their site. Everything for a very, very reasonable price. The area of their place is nice with a lot of animals. We had a really wonderful time and would recommend this place to anyone.

We spent 5 days at Sunset Lodge & Safari. Exceptional hospitality, a magical place surrounded by nature and animals. An always smiling staff, perfect service, delicious meals (thank you "Beauty"), impeccable cleanliness. Toni and Vincent always have the attention that makes you happy and the attention to detail. A perfect organization of activities and always great availability. Without forgetting the moments shared in front of a good fire with a glass of wine, humor and lots of interesting conversations despite our approximate english... Everything was perfect. Thank you Toni and Vincent, we miss you and as Vincent says, it's a good thing ;)

The experience at Sunset was amazing and unforgettable. Vincent and Tony were incredibly hospitable and knowledgeable. We learned so much from them especially on the Safari tour. The rooms were beautiful and cosy and the staff were also very friendly. We were very well looked after and it was also amazing to see so many different animals around lodge. Our time spent there in the short time was so memorable we did not want to leave! Thank you to everyone there for talk are of us and we would love to come back there again if we are ever in South Africa. 10/10 :o)

This was the only place we went to in South Africa where we were not affected by load-shedding because they owners have solar panels and wind turbines. I make a point of saying this because being at Sunset Lodge and Safaris was the only time where we didn't have to worry about not having power during our whole trip. Huge kudos to the owners for their sustainable and practical attitude!

Of course, there are the many other boons to being there - the fabulous owners who cannot do enough for you, the huge rooms, tastefully decorated. They have just built two new rooms which give you more of a bush feel, still luxurious but very rustic. the most amazing food (shoutout to the homemade tomato jam and the best homemade chocolate brownies I have ever had!) , fabulous game drives and, best of all, the wildlife: Buffalo, giraffe, zebra, bushbuck, warthog, impala, all coming right up to the lodge. They are not tame as the lodge owners make a point of not feeding them, but you get the chance to see them close up but safely.
This place is a whole experience that I encourage everyone to have in their lifetime!

Room tip: Room 7 directly overlooks a huge field filled with animals

We did see a lot of wildlife in the krugerpark. At the lodges you can see giraffes, zebra's and many more...how exciting is it to go the breakfast and meet all these animals. Toni and Vincent do everything they can to make sturen that you have a good experience. They can provide the transportation from the airport to the lodge and they make sure that the excursions are arranged. Breakfast is included but for a small price they will cook diner also....realy 10 out of 10.

Room tip: There are rooms whit a veranda and the wildlife is coming directly at your door....beautiful

The minute you set foot in the lodge you feel 'at home' in the most natural and authentic surroundings. Toni and Vincent are perfect hosts who hit the perfect balance between offering privacy and drawing you into their lodge, the bush and stories of the Guernsey Reserve. Drinks at sunset, super wonderful meals, healthy, full of fresh vegetables and whatever takes your fancy and never over the top. That is what makes this place to special, you get the best of what South Africa has to offer, not a copy of home life.

We woke up, rolled over and watched the giraffes from out bed taking a leisurely morning walk and drinking in the waterhole we were looking out on. Warthogs next, then 'lady Gaga' the ostrich and her followers. And all that before breakfast. Do go on the early morning bush walk, Vincent knows and shares anything worth knowing, do go on a bush drive and sundowners and discuss anything else you'd like to do with them. When Vince and Toni organise it, it will be done from AAA to ZZZ and beyond.

Finally, do book the safari style 'camping' lodge if you can. Overnight you hear the bush sounds, smell the air and wake up IN Africa whilst having good showers (in and outdoor) and a comfy bed.

Room tip: excellent wifi, check which cabin you like: indoor pool terrace or outside bush view - so much choice. They arrange all transport needs.
