The place is really amazing. A white sand beach with turquoise sea, 3 swimming pools, SPA, big and nicely furbished rooms... We are not used to luxurious places, we could afford it just because it was our honeymoon so we are not spoiled at all, but still some minus kinda ruined the experience, I'm referring to:
- The receptionists: extremely hard to see them smiling or say thank you, even when you settle your bills. One of them, every time we spoke to him, made uncomfortable jokes about money and alcohol. When you pay so much for an accommodation, you expect the staff to be extremely welcoming and able to make you feel at ease.
- The bar staff: same as above. No smiling at all. They make you feel like they are doing a favor to you to serve you a drink. Again, we expected a better hospitality and service.
- The people following you on the beach trying to get tips (not part of the hotel staff): when you just want to take a walk on the beach with your wife, you wanna be free and have no hassle. You definitely don't want people asking where you come from, what's your name and other pointless questions just to get tips. If you then tell me that you'd like to be alone they'll put it on the skin color issue, saying that you do this just cause you are white and you "hate Africa" (!!!) (that's what someone told us). So be aware.

Huge thumbs up for the SPA staff (really nice and welcoming, especially the receptionist), the main swimming pool staff and the beach attendants, always happy to help you. Don't forget to do the free low tide walk with Eric, which is very funny and knows a lot about fish and mangroves.
We had the penthouse which was gorgeous and with a tremendous look over the beach and the sea, not to mention the outside private jacuzzi.

Do indulge talking to the 2 Masai women that come once in a while to sell things. Even if you don't want to buy anything, they will still be very happy to talk about the Masai culture. Same with the nice guy selling hand crafted things on the beach.

If the hospitality of some part of the staff will improve, we'll definitely come back because it's really a paradisiac place!

We spent two nights on Chale Island and it was amazing. The staff was polite and professional. Everybody was trying to make our visit so comfortable as possible. The food was good and there were many varieties. The chalets were nice and clean. You can do all kinds of water sports there but we only relaxed. Wonderful place. Except the pumpy road from Diani beach to marina of Chalet Island.

My husband and I stayed at The Sands at Chale Island in August 2018 for four nights and three and a half days at the end of our 3-week safari honeymoon. We stayed in a lagoon banda, all inclusive.

We booked through a tour operator so we don't have experience of the booking process, but everything we experienced happened without any issues. We don't generally stay at luxury resorts or go on beach holidays at all, so this was something different for us. This was our honeymoon so it's hard to say whether in future we'd spend on something like this again, although it was amazing. I think the cost of our room all incl was about $400 per night (but it was part of a safari package for us so don't know exact).

The place was an absolute dream. I really don't have anything negative to say (which is unusual for me). When you arrive at the jetty on the mainland, you are transported by boat or tractor (depending on the tide level) across to Chale. We were welcomed at the reception, given a glass of juice and more information about our stay than was possible to shake a stick at. The island is beautiful, a real paradise with green trees, monkeys, white sands, and surrounded by clear waters.

Banda
We were taken to our banda, which was beautiful and BIG. You had to walk down a little private path through a closed in front garden to get to it, so it felt very secluded and private. I think all the bandas had this.
The banda also had a big veranda with two beds on and a bit of garden with two sun lounger chairs on. The grassy garden led down to the sea.
There was a safe (which worked and was easy to use) for keeping valuables in, and a good-quality mosquito net around the bed. There was a desk, a coffee table with armchairs, a dresser with a mirror, two bedside cabinets, and an effective air conditioning unit. The bathroom had a shower, toilet, bidet, and two sinks! There was also hanging and storage space for clothes.

Beach
There is the main beach and a "secret beach", which you can reach through the forest or by walking round from the main beach during low tide.
At the main beach, there are sunbeds with parasols, and the beach staff will bring you a towel when you sit down. You never have to worry about not being able to have a sunbed, because if they are all taken then the staff will go and get the ones from your banda garden and bring them to the beach (and take them back again later, all seamlessly without us even noticing).
The beach has beautiful white sand and clear water. You have the benefit here of being able to relax without worrying about people trying to sell you stuff like on the Diani beaches. It's quiet and peaceful all day long. Something that has annoyed me at the few beaches I've visited before is when they play loud party music all day. That's really not the vibe here, just the sound of the sea, it's beautiful.
The beach staff also will bring you drinks from the main bar if you ask them, which is lovely.
When the tide goes out, vast expanses of rock pools become visible and you can walk around (carefully, with flip flops is best!) and see all the residents of these pools. There are endless hermit crabs, urchins, brittle stars (the locals call them sea spiders or spider starfish), and little fish. Sometimes the locals (who come across at low tide for a few hours, but can't come up onto the beach) will show you some starfish, large crabs, and eels in the right places near the cliffs.
When the tide is in, swimming is a must! The water is delightful.

Pools
There were three pools. One small saltwater pool, one pool that goes round in a ring shape with a bar in the middle, and one that is a bit larger, with a little jet pool bit at one end. We only went in the latter two pools. At both these pools, the service was similar to at the beach. Towels were brought to you as soon as you looked like you might need them, drinks were offered. Both pools were lovely. Totally clean and had loungers around for relaxing.

Staff
The staff were very attentive at all times. At the restaurant, beach, and bar, I barely had to raise my head before someone would come over and ask if I needed anything. Everyone was friendly and greeted you as you walked by. I went to ask someone if I could use some glue to fix my flip flop, and they took them and fixed them for me without me even asking.

Food
We were all inclusive, so we had breakfast buffet, lunch buffet, afternoon tea (tea and desserts), dinner buffet, and unlimited drinks. All inclusive included spirits, which was a great plus for us because I don't drink beer or wine.
Every meal was phenomenal. The buffet was the best buffet by far that I had anywhere on our whole trip, and possibly ever. It was different every day. Even the desserts were still different after four lunches and four dinners worth! The quality was as brilliant as the variety, which is quite a feat for a buffet.
At every meal I was far too full to eat any more long before I actually wanted to stop because it was all so great. There were fresh pasta dishes made to order, fish catch of the day that was prepared and cooked in front of you to order, curries, stews, meats, vegetables, a great variety of salads, and more condiments, herbs, and oils than you can possibly ever need! It really was a delight.

Activities
There are activities on offer at the hotel, some for a fee, some for free. We did a secret beach walk and a forest walk, which helped us discover a bit more of the island with a guide who could give us some information as we walked. The guide was hilarious actually and gave a great tour. We didn't do the other activities but there was kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, and various other activities on offer. There's a whole spa facility with a wide range of treatments on offer. There was entertainment in the evenings, including dancers and live music performances.

Summary
Our stay at Chale Island was phenomenal, and there really isn't anything I can think of that might have improved it. The island is gorgeous and the hotel is fantastic. Also, something I didn't think about when I was there but have thought of now is that it absolutely never felt busy. The beach, pools, and bars were never crowded. This is quite extraordinary really because I think we visited during peak season. I thoroughly recommend this resort to anyone who wants to splash out on something really extra special.

Wow, what a place to be !
I spent three nights with my family, and we enjoyed every single moment on this exotic Island. Few things that we found exemplary were:
The white sand beach and it's gorgeous turquoise water.
It's a private beach and only residents or day guest can access.
The view from Banda is breathtaking!
You can view both, sunrise and sunset, and they're mesmerizing.
Andrea is an awesome host, he has a passion towards his job and thats amazing.
The ambience at the spa is amazing facing the lagoon lake, and Maureen is an excellent therapist.
The food is good, both veg and non veg options, the catch of the day fish is the highlight... Very fresh fish. Lydia was the pick of the staff in the chapateria restaurants whom we found we welcoming and thoughtful.
Not sure why they don't stock ice creams:-(
The rooms are well kept and we didn't see any mosquitos around. However, expect salty water in the taps, no power in the rooms from 10am to 5pm. It didn't matter to us coz you spend the entire day at the beach.

Areas that can be improved;
There are few beach boys who can be a pain if you entertain them, would be good to see if they can be kept away.

Would've been good to have some beach party music during the nights at the beach ;-)

There are a lot of monkeys around, specially the baboons can create problems, mainly during lunchtime at the chapeteria restaurant you have to be careful and inform the security to stay alert.

Overall, a great place to be and we will be back soon!

Thank you Chale
