In every way this place excels. Service is spot on. The grounds are spectacular. The food is so much better than the rest of Ireland. Worth every penny. Massage was great. Archery worth it. Falconry expensive. Rains a lot but just pretend it’s your house!

We stayed 2 nights and had an amazing time. This is the only spot in our Ireland trip where we never left the grounds of the hotel. The building is amazing, definitely take the tour. The grounds are beautiful, take the carriage ride and get a history area. We walked the grounds, climbed the tower, played croquet on the back lawn, sneaked into the walled garden and picked an apple, went out to the archery range and in general had an amazing time.

We are not your blue blazer dinner crowd so we had our dinners served downstairs in the bar. We were able to setup an Irish whiskey tasting session in the bar and had a great time.

It's really nice to be able to visit any of the public rooms in the house, sit, relax, read, get a coffee brought to you and just feel like you are living a century ago in an incredible house.

The staff was very approachable, very helpful and a pleasure to be around.

We had the extreme pleasure of being able to spend three nights at Ballyfin to start our grand tour of Ireland. It is definitely one of our favorite hotels in the world and we’d go back in a heartbeat.
They manage something that most places can’t get right. The service is very formal and correct but there is not a trace of stuffiness. The staff seem to have such a sense of fun even while serving plates in starched white gloves.
The small number of rooms mean there is an intimacy not found in other properties we’ve stayed at on this trip.
They don’t promote it much but the estate is a perfect place to ride bikes and one of our favorite things we did was just explore the property on the bikes they provide.
Another highlight was our historic coach ride with Lionel, who is Irish charm personified. Standout staff were Leahanne who took great care of us at dinner and Edyta (hope I spelled it right) whise sunny smile greeted us every morning.
I am not alone in my fondness for Ballyfin. They continue to win awards for Worlds best hotel from Condé Nast and just scored again with Andrew Harper Readers for their favorite Hideaway in the report that came out yesterday.
Our experience at Ballyfin was the exact opposite of our stay at their sister Relais and Chateau property in Kenmare, the Sheen Falls Lodge. We left a day early because the service was so wretched. But that’s a story for another review.

This Demense is truly lovely. If you like old luxury then this is your place. Our room was not modern but was lovely. No AC but large fan was good enough. We stayed 3 days and ate all our evening meals in the Dining Room. The service is very friendly and quite attentive. They only change the menu weekly so staying over 3 days would have you reordering dishes unless you like everything on the menu. The home has been stunningly rehabbed from the girls school days. The grounds are fun to explore on their golf buggies and beautiful horse drawn carriage. We will probably go back someday.

A review that is long overdue since we visited this fantastic property last fall (October 2017) but wow, we can't say enough about how fantastic this property is - a must visit for sure. From the food, the wine, the beautiful rooms, the amazingly expansive property and the incredible service, it far exceeded our expectations. Damien is a terrific General manager and his leadership is reflected in the care of the buildings, the staff attitude and the low-key elegance of the place. We enjoyed three nights at Ballyfin (stayed in the little library suite) and we would absolutely go back. The nightly rates are expensive but we equate cost with value, and the value to us was priceless as it was the perfect spot to unwind, curl up with a good book and a great glass of wine in front of a roaring fire after a brisk walk on the property (or you can take one of the many golf carts) and finish the day with a gourmet meal. Lovely and the small details matter - we loved the amenities provided in our suite and also the friendliness of all staff. A must visit for anyone who enjoys privacy, luxury and elegance.

Room tip: The Little Library Suite was perfect.Large bright bathroom, lots of room to spread out in the room but still cozy/character.
