“Good Basic accommodation”
Reviewed 13 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

The landlord of the local pub summed this accommodation up “Good Basic accommodation” and that is exactly how it is. Its clean and no frills! The gardens are so pretty, very English cottage garden. Great location, in the heart of this pretty village, but the accommodation itself is a little tired in certain areas. The carpets all need replacing, the wiring is all old and the décor needs updating. Had a great time, but feel updating is needed for the weekly rental price that is charged. Next time I visit I will stay somewhere else in the village.

Thank you for your kind review.
I am sorry you felt the cottage was only basic. I would however point out that you actually stayed in Beech Cottage, not Birch Cottage and have reviewed the incorrect property.
The cottages are totally different for a particular reason. Birch Cottage is decorated in more modern standard, which would probably have appealed to your liking better. Beech Cottage has been decorated to maintain the charm of an English country cottage. All the carpets have been replaced within the last two years, the wiring is fully up to modern standards with up to date fuse boxes and safety trips. I agree some of light switches look old, but they comply with safety standards, and we feel the look of these enhances the country cottage ambience. With regard to "basic" the cottage is fully equipped with all up to date equipment: dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, fridge, freezer, flat screen TV with freesat, DVD, Wifi (in this area sorry it is not fast). All utensils are replenished yearly and are of good quality. Fred & Lesley

Four of us stayed here for a week in November and it's an ideal base for walking in the Peak District. It's in a good location by the church in the centre of this attractive village, very near shops and pubs. Well fitted, well equipped, plenty of hot water, warm, with a wood-burning stove that actually works (and works very well). Very comfy beds. Helpful and welcoming owners living nearby. Recommended.

Thank you for your review.
I am pleased that you found the cottage so warm and comfortable and convenient for the village facilities. I agree, the log burning stove is lovely to return to after a walk out in the area. Thank you, Lesley & Fred

Thank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and found the cottage comfortable and well equipped. You obviously found the various beautiful local walks which can be started direct from the cottage. Best wishes, Fred & Lesley

“What a great Place”
Reviewed 6 May 2013 for a stay in November 2012

Great location in the heart of the village but also not far from some lovely places to visit by car. This cottage is really well furnished with fittings to a very high standard and very nicely decorated. With the owners living round the corner they were attentive to your needs but not in any way over-bearing. I would definately visit this place again and thanks to Fred and Lesley the owners who were so friendly and welcoming! If you are visiting the PeaK District then use Hartington as your base and Birch Cottage would be my choice.
