“Really lovely cottage”
Reviewed 18 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We were really impressed with Knowl Cottage and Hartington itself is a lovely village. Two very nice local pubs with good food within seconds walk. We were blessed with fabulous sunny weather, more like Spain than Derbyshire ! Great location for places like Chatsworth House, Bakewell etc. Lots of cracking walks nearby. Recommend the cheese from the local cheese shop !!

“The very best of English cottages!”
Reviewed 27 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We spent last week in Knowl Cottage and absolutely loved it. Tony and I, a senior couple from Australia, were joined by my sister who is also travelling around the UK. The cottage and village both lived up to, in fact exceeded our expectations. It was so, so comfortable, with everything we could possibly need or want. The garden was lovely, well tended by Carol. Thank you. The general store across the road was fabulous, and the corner shop provided the daily newspaper. Great to keep abreast of what was happening with the British referendum! Enjoyed a meal at The Devonshire Arms, as well as The Lazy Trout in Meerbrook when we were stranded on Gun Hill with a flat tyre! Also visited next door tea rooms on arrival in the village. Lovely! Thank you Patrick & France's for your attention to detail, and offering the best in English cottages.

I cannot rate this property highly enough. Its location is in the centre of the lovely village of Hartington. The 3 bedrooms were all reasonably sized and were all en suite with plenty of hot water available. The cozy living room was dominated by the log fire and there was enough seating for the 6 of us. The kitchen was well stocked from the crystal glasses to the lovely china crockery, all high quality and with the cottage spotlessly cleaned I cannot imagine anyone not loving it here. The owners Patrick and Frances certainly want you to enjoy with all the little touches, for example they have a game rooms in the back yard with 50" television for all sports fanatics (which ours were watching the rugby!), there was a welcoming bottle of wine and with cheese from the local cheese shop, had a lovely evening with the log fire. Hartington itself is not fair from many of the attractions, Bakewell (well worth a visit) and Chatsworth. If looking for a break in the Peak District then you won't go far wrong with booking Knowl Cottage and would highly recommend

Liked best: The whole house as we loved the log fire, and the fact that all bedrooms had ensuite
Liked least: This is nit picking, but a toilet downstairs

“EXCELLENT COTTAGE, EXCELLENT HOLIDAY.”
Reviewed 3 January 2016 for a stay in November 2015

Cannot rate this cottage highly enough. If you're not sure about booking ....do it, you will not be disappointed. Stayed in November with friends and should have left a review much sooner. Cottage was clean, warm, loads of hot water, lovely kitchen with plenty of utensils etc. Not only was heating ad lib but wood was readily available if needed from account in local shop.
Hartington is a delightful village with good food and beer in the Frank Cotton hotel. We didn't have a chance to explore the pub... both are walking distance from the cottage. Great walks along the river and then up onto the hills and back, straight from the cottage door. Patrick the owner could not have been more helpful. Will be back if at all possible.
