fab cottage to stay in and use as an ideal base to tour the fife coastal area and ideally situated in middle of pitteweem walking distance to shops and beach, we travelled with our daughter and my mother along with our pooch which is great to find somewhere that takes dogs. this cottage is very relaxing and clean . our daughter took her scooter to get about so she loved scooting about the streets of pittenweem and some games so great escape away. As for the garden we had a nice night sitting out and having glass of vino. On one of the days we got the bus into st.andrews (bus stop minutes from cottage so was ideal) also another day did the coastal walk to anstruther had lunch then walked back the main road. we all enjoyed staying in this cottage and felt truly relaxed and have just made booking to return for longer later in the year! cant wait to get back!
We booked this cottage for myself and two sons for a week and absolutely loved it. The cottage itself is clean and tidy with a lovely new bathroom and kitchen. The living room was very comfy with loads of room for us all and had an open gas fire which we didn't need to use as the cottage was very cosy without it on. The bedrooms were a reasonable size for a cottage with the back bedroom having a large airy velux window. The garden was lovely to sit in with access to the hut which contained several garden chairs which we were able to relax on. There was also a BBQ available for us to use, which we were lucky enough to take advantage of. The street is nice and quiet and had loads of room to park.
All in all a beautiful well appointed cosy cottage. Would love to return in the winter just to have the fire on and experience Pittenweem on a cold winters day but would recommend to anyone wanting the peace and tranquillity of Pittenweem with this lovely wee cottage. Soooo relaxing !!
On arrival I went to side of house to collect the key as instructed, and came back around to discover my husband already in, as someone had left a key in the door! The first thing we noticed was the horrible smell, like stale air freshener and carpet freshener, as if another unpleasant smell was being covered up. The cottage is very small, which isn't a problem in itself, but sitting room felt claustrophobic with the excessive amount of furniture and clutter that was stuffed into it. There were 2 small double bedrooms, the 2nd of which [ if you could call it a bedroom, it didn't have a window, only a skylight, so no chance of escape in the event of a fire in the night! ] smelled particularly bad. The kitchen was ok, but the bathroom was the only really decent room. Before booking I asked specifically if the garden was enclosed and secure, as we have 2 dogs, I was assured it was, but discovered the tiny patch of garden was surrounded by a wall which was very low at the front with a rickety gate, the dogs could easily have jumped down from this onto the road, a small child could certainly topple over and have a nasty fall due to the drop on the other side. We went out for a few hours after unloading our stuff, and although we had been assured we could easily park our SUV on the street, when we came back we found that although there was a gap between 2 vehicles it was impossible to park as the road was too narrow to get in the gap without hitting wall on the other side. On re-entering the cottage we were immediately hit with the awful smell again, and decided we couldn't sleep there for one night, never mind the two we had booked! [ Thank goodness we had not booked a longer stay! ] We loaded up our stuff and headed home. Arrived at 2pm, home by 9pm! Awful! ( Update Peter phoned my Wife after the review was left and after a non amicable conservation said he would consider giving us our money back to this date early December no refund !! )
