We spent four nights here as we explored the Mount Etna region. As we approached the house our breath was taken away by the beauty of the setting. Laura met us and showed us the beautiful house and property. She is warm and gracious, and though she speaks little English and we speak no Italian we communicated perfectly. She left us a platter of antipasti and a bottle of wine, and some of the cooking basics like oil and vinegar, to ease us into our stay. We used the grill a few times and cooked a few meals. We scoped out the best places to buy bread, meat, vegetables and other provisions in Solicchiata and the neighboring towns. Also the best restaurants including Terra Mia right down the road. We used Solicchiata as the base for visiting vineyards and Mount Etna and it was very well located.
The location was perfect for us, on the slopes of Mount Etna. Having arrived late on Sunday afternoon we discovered that the local shops were closed. This was not a problem though, our host Giorgio who met us, provided us with a bottle of local wine, meat & cheese and a bowl of homemade pasta cooked by his mother Laura, who was lovely. We stayed in an authentic Sicilian house which was very comfortable with necessities required. It was situated in the grounds of a vineyard with views of Mount Etna which you could walk through. The pool was lovely and clean which we ended up using most days. I would definitely come here again.
