“Idyllic location, beautiful home”
Reviewed 7 September 2012 for a stay in July 2012

Our family of 5 spent a week in early July. The quality of the restoration is outstanding, whilst the surrounding pool, gardens etc were both beautiful and functional. Whilst a somewhat remote location we found that many of the villages, markets, attractions etc were within a scenic 10-45 minute or so drive. We spent the days roaming to produce markets of Thiviers, Exciduell, Brantome, to name a few, the beautiful villages (including Saint Pierre de Cole, Brantome, St Jean de Cole), canoeing around Brantome, whilst the town of Perigueux was worth a visit. We visited the chateau of Hautefort, and the caves at Grotte de Villars. Games of outdoor table tennis and badminton, the pool area, outdoor dining and UK pay TV, together with outdoor dining area made for relaxing afternoons/evenings. We were visited by the local deer, whilst fresh market produce was supplemented by goodies from the extensive vegie patch. Accommodation and facilities were very comfortable. We flew in to Limoges (from Bristol), and caught the train to Paris from Limoges afterward. All very manageable. We had a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend both the area and particularly Le Marronnier, and have begun to do so..

“Beautiful house & rural surroundings in the Dordogne”

After arriving in unseasonal cold and very wet weather at Bergerac Airport we were greeted very warmly by the owner, despite our later than expected arrival at the property.
The house was spotlessly clean and the owner showed us around explaining all the necesaary details of how to work all the appliances, heating etc
Unfortunately due to the weather at the start of our holiday we did have to use the wood burning stove, much to the delight of some of our party, however later in the week these same people were happy to be cooling off in the pool!
Although the house is very rural and peaceful it is still quite easy to manage day trips to some of the major tourist sites in the Dordogne and Rocamadour can be reached easily in 90mins and is definitly worth the drive.
The recently added childrens swing set was an added bonus for our 3yr old as well as the nightly table tennis competitions for the adults! With a young child a safety net around the trampoline would be beneficial. The area by the pool is spacious and well provided with seating, tables and a canopied area.
Overall I would not hesitate in recommending this property to anyone wanting to explore the northern regions of the Dordogne in a very peaceful setting.

Liked best: The Wood stove was very welcome and the fact that all our party needed to use the internet was a bonus
Liked least: The intermittent gas supply and the lack of enough hot water along with the tripping of the electricity supply

Management Response
18 May 2012
Thank you for your kind comments Rachel.
I always like to show my guests around on arrival, however circumstances and a late arrival unfortunately meant I was unable to do this. It is then easier for me to explain about the foibles of living in rural France. One of which is us having to cope with a slightly different electrical system to the UK. In France having for example dishwasher, washing machine, large electric guzzling cooker, pool pump, 2 large water heaters, microwave, kettle etc working alongside all the other everyday technical gadgets a large family will use, then unfortunately sometimes, the electric trips on the main trip board. The switch is located in the house, so no major inconvenience in flicking it back on. Once my guests are aware of why this happens it doesn't normally reoccur. Just something we all accept living in rural France and I can understand it seeming a bit bizarre. Same with the internet, which I believe went off for some hours and came back on – most frustrating when co-ordinating a wedding.
There are 2 large water heaters, one to do the 2 shower rooms and one to do the 2 baths (with showers heads) that are on morning and night. I apologise for not having pointed this out, as yes 8 people showering off one water heater would not have given enough hot water for 8 showers, but there would have been a full tank for the other 2 bathrooms.
It was most unfortunate that when I spoke with the bride and best friend the morning after your arrival and I mentioned bikes, I was requested to leave 2 bikes out, as I have quite a selection of mountain bikes.
I will endeavour to find a teapot and have already replace the cafetiere, I do however also supply a Philips Coffee Maker :-)
