Not for nothing, Government Properties receive so much flak. It's a pity that such a wonderful property at an even better location (overlooking the Lake) should be reduced to a cheap booze spot, with an even cheaper and crass crowd.
- Maintenance is pathetic. AC doesn't work. Wall paint is peeling off. There is no room service.
- Nobody cared two hoots about masks (both staff and visitors). Let alone sanitization, they didn't even bother to wipe the tables after guests left.
- People only need to pay a meager entry fee of 100 bucks to enter the property (which ideally should only be restricted to people who are staying at the hotel). From sleazy locals to rowdy Delhiites (who presumably make to and fro day trips), the place doesn't have a semblance of peace. There were some families, but they seemed to have lost all good sense too. Not a single person wore a mask! And trust me when I say, the place was full to the brim.
- And yes, cheap beer is readily available which adds to the entire ruckus all the more.
We were thankfully shown to the rooms on the top floor. Even then we left eventually. We did manage to get our food served upstairs (a small tip to the lone bell boy cum waiter worked) to avoid the crowd and the lack of even basic sanitization. God knows if even the basic protocols were being maintained while it was being prepared. The electrician nonchalantly came in without a mask and plonked himself on the bed to 'fix' the easily 15-year-old AC which conked off every 10 mins and hardly did any cooling. Under better circumstances, we could have sat on the terrace after sundown enjoying the cool lake breeze and the calm around. Considering the utter disregard for even basic hygiene, we decided to leave. We had pre-booked 2 nights, they didn't even bother to offer a return for the second day. On top of that, they charged us extra for the two substandard meals we had. 4 meal prices were included in the amount we had paid. 3,600 (plus tax) a night. Breakfast and either lunch or dinner included.
If you don't want to be cheated out of good money, and peace of mind, don't bother staying here. And if you are okay with dealing with an uncouth, horrendous crowd, by all means, pay that 100 rupee entry fee and spend some time at the restaurant clicking selfies and eating bad food, with the lake in the background.
