Hi Cobus

Thank you for the wonderful feedback.

For the information of other readers we have two types of rooms at the old Inn. The Historic rooms are the authentic and affordable original rooms whch are over 180 years old. These wonderful rooms offer shared bathroom facilities in nearby newly upgraded bathrooms. As an alternative we have a number of en-suite bedrooms situated in the newer part of the hotel. Guests choose these at a slightly higher rate

As authentic oldeworlde as you get. Quaint old Inn in a sleepy arty village. Hearty breakfast, typical local pub, almost waiting for Basil to pop down the stairs. Nice mix of locals and tourists gives a real feel to this historic gem

Hi Michael
Thank you for your review, we are probably more proud of our locals than we are about our famous Inn. Your return visit needs to be timed around some of Bathurst's great events. Visit at the Bathurst show in 2017

Bathurst is a charming and historic little town, qualities that are exemplified by the Historic Pig and Whistle Inn. I had a very pleasant and all-too-brief one-night stay here in June 2016; my room was spacious and comfortable (with a wonderful old-style bathtub,) the food was excellent, and the service friendly and helpful. I also throughly enjoyed chatting with some of the gregarious local residents in the pub. Thanks to Gavin, Lucile and their staff for their hospitality and great advice on local sights. I will certainly be back!

Hi Donald, it was wonderful to host you at South Africa's oldest pub. Thank you for your kind comments. We look forward to a return visit. Perhaps next year's Bathurst Show?

Just like staying in an English country pub in the heart of South Africa, The Pig and Whsitle is full of charm and character. Staff are very friendly as are the locals, The four poster bed and old fashioned decor feels like you're stepping back in time. Very comfortable couple of nights in the quirky little town of Bathurst, would love to visit again. Slightly disappointed they only had one beer on draft! Also, although we booked a table for Sunday lunch and ordered, it turns out that they didn't have what we asked for and asked us to order from the normal menu. Not too much of an issue as the food was delicious, but was disappointed not to get to try their famous Sunday lunch!

Hi Cactus73, thank you for your wonderful review. We have over our ownership to ensure that the Pig and Whistle is as authentic as possible, without sacrificing the modern amenities we all love to enjoy. We look forward to your return visit, perhaps the Grahamstown festival ?

This place has so much charm and a very "homely" vibe. We had a lovely stay in a very neat, clean and spacious room. The restaurant's food was great and very good value for money. The staff were extremely attentive and cheery. Natalie is a wonderful host and making guests feel welcome seems like second nature to her.

Hi Tessa thank you so much for your "full house" score. We also love it when you pick out a staff member for compliments. Natalie will be delighted when we feed this back to her. We look forward to your return visit. Perhaps for the Bathurst Country Affair?
