This a fantastic grotto with tables just under an impressive slate of stone. It is a lively and friendly place with the best food we have tried in Chiavenna. We have been quite systematic and have tried all of the grottos. We had pizzoccheri which were light and very tasty. The highlight of the dinner was a selection of vegetables cooked on a special stone called pioda. They were incredibly tasty and the meat our neighbours were having was also cooked on the stone and looked very juicy. The restaurant has a small outhouse near the rock where they bake and cook the food in this original way on the hot stones. We finished with a fantastic blackberry cake very typical of the region made with a special type of flower of grano saraceno. Again it was tasty and light.

We were hungry and had a journey further than chiavenna but decided to stop at ombra. We had a bottle of wine with water and both of us had venison. It was excellent. Service was good and atmosphere too

Dinner at Crotto Ombra was very tasty. Our dinner selection: House cured Bresaola (cured beef), thinly sliced, served with breads and crostini sticks, followed by the main course of grilled pork ribs and vegetables and a selection of local cheeses rounded off a very delicious dinner. Before dinner we visited the crotto with racks of curing cheeses gave us special appreciation of Chiavenna's specialties. We wished the wait staff would have been a little more engaging.

The dinner we had at Crotto Ombra was all good from beginning to end.
The surronding is amazing with the mountain rock hanging above, the wine (we had the red house wine) was fantastic, and the food was delucious.
I had fish soup for first dish, and I can honestly say it was the best fish soup I have ever had.
The rib eye steak I had for main course was perfectly cooked, and the side dishes that came with it were also very good.
Not to be missed if you are in Chiavenna!
