What a gem we found buried deep in beautiful grounds , such a stunning house , so homely , with a large amount of artefacts on show ,very interesting history to the house we could hardly drag ourselves away the staff were so welcoming and helpful ,sadly due to our age we couldn’t see the beautiful grounds which you need to walk round to appreciate ,I would recommend this visit to anyone .

The huge estate is wonderful to walk around and you can drive around the one way 6 mile route to reach the lake and the adventure play area. The formal gardens, bridges and huge trees are all amazing. There are a fair few uneven stairways so need to be careful. The house itself is lovely, wonderfully kept and so unique. They had cute activities to entertain children as you walk around the house. Lovely day and helpful staff.

I'd wanted to visit Cragside for a while (tenuous family connections with the Watson-Armstrongs) but it's a very long way from home in Cornwall. Staying with family nearby, we all went (including a small child) and what with the lovely gardens, excellent adventure playground and long drive round the lakes, we all enjoyed it. The house was extremely interesting, with some fascinating domestic innovations, although like so many Victorian houses, I don't yearn to live in their many small, dark, overcrowded rooms. Although no one could accuse the gallery and drawing room of being either small or dark! Many thanks to the volunteer guides who went the extra mile helping me locate possible family portraits belonging to Lady Winifreda. Only downside to the day was that it suddenly started to rain heavily (after a lovely start) and the small outside cafeteria emptied out and the remaining larger one was swamped with a huge queue, all the inside and undercover tables taken and harassed staff inside - we had a hungry little boy to feed before going to the playground and so went back out to the village for a pub lunch before returning in improved weather to the excellent playground. My usual reservations about National Trust catering apply here. It was a busy Sunday, with loads of families, and the rain forced everyone to the same place at the same time and it just couldn't cope.

Managed to visit Cragside house on this trip, was planning on it before we moved abroad buy life and events got in the way, so trip has been long overdue and anticipated. Must say we very much enjoyed both the visit to the house and the grounds, was a shame we couldn't have done it a clue of weeks previous when apparently the rhododendrons were in full bloom, managed to see some but the full show would have been spectacular.Awesome house and history, definitely recommend a visit

This is a must see if you are in the area. Even if you don't visit the house itself, the grounds around it are amazing. We were there just as the rhododendrons were in bloom and oh my was it gorgeous. you can do numerous walks in the park but you can also drive your car around the six mile (!) route through the domain. The house itself is also pretty darn cool. the guy who built it put in so many cool innovative elements (for victorian standards), it is truly a fun surprise around every corner.
