“Villa Bellevue is a functional villa with a fantastic view and great pool”
Reviewed 12 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

Villa Bellevue is a functional villa with a fantastic view. It has a great pool and garden area. The villa itself is by no means luxurious nor is the penthouse “lavish” as described on several websites.

We were a family party of six adults with two children aged 3 months and 3 years. Our initial booking made in May 2015 was as six adults and two children. In December 2015 we asked about a cot for the baby instead of the bed and were told this would be an additional 40 euros. We considered this excessive, choosing instead to bring our own pram/cot, however this did make our traveling more cumbersome.

As a close family unit we thoroughly enjoyed our week at Villa Bellevue however it was overshadowed by the unwelcoming nature of the owner Otto. We note that Otto’s son Hannes is listed as the owner on some web sites.

The description and photos of the villa are an accurate representation, nevertheless we were surprised at the low quality of the fixtures and fittings - mostly plastic tables and chairs and flat pack cupboards and units. The bed mattresses are foam, although comfortable. There are two single duvets on each double bed.

The two lower apartments are very useful but the bedrooms are quite dark at all times. Although there is a window in each, they look onto the side walkways of the villa which Otto uses for plants and equipment. As a consequence little natural light comes in. My two adult sons jokingly described them as “sensory deprivation”.

The window in the bathroom/toilet of the double bedroom in the “penthouse” looks directly into an adjoining room that Otto uses for preparing laundry, etc. There is a curtain on the window but it does reduce privacy.

We had previously agreed with Otto via email that we could drop off our bags at the entrance before the target handover time of 16.00. When we arrived at 13.00 we were greeted with something approaching hostility by a stressed Otto who was preparing the villa after the previous occupants. He was very cross that they had left a very dirty oven. When we asked him for some suggestions for restaurants for lunch whilst we waited for the handover, he said very bluntly that he would not give any suggestions. This was not the welcome we expected. We subsequently ate at Casa Pepe. In contrast they were very welcoming and are the subject of a separate Tripadvisor review. As suggested by Otto we called him at 14.40 and he told us the villa was now ready for us which was appreciated.

The handover to us was incredibly detailed taking almost 90 minutes. Each plate, cup, saucer, glasses of various type, hand and bath towel, etc. was counted and formally signed for on a form that stated, amongst other things, that there would be a 65 euros to 125 euros charge for “urine wet” mattresses. We have rented many holiday villas before and have never experienced such a minute inspection of standard contents. This is not the best way to start a holiday.

Contrary to our expectations pool towels were not provided. Otto subsequently said this was clear on the website. We booked via the Owners Direct (Home and Away) website where it states simply “linens and towels provided”.

Although the website talks about a “a lavish BBQ area”, if you want to use the villa BBQ you have to pay an additional 35 euros cleaning charge. This came as a surprise. There is no lighting by the BBQ area so in the winter months when it gets dark early cooking would be difficult. Otto set up an external light for us via an extension cable.

Otto was around early every morning tending to the pool and the garden. He was very unobtrusive. He also did the laundry for the villa, presumably for the next set of guests, at a separate unit attached to the side of the villa. However we were surprised one morning when just outside the front door entrance there were many sheets being aired.

On the day of our departure we had agreed with Otto that the handover would start at 07.40. To Otto’s surprise it was completed shortly after 08.00. Otto’s experience is that it usually takes much longer. The villa was clean, rubbish had been removed, there were no breakages and no “wet mattresses”. Every bedroom, bathroom, toilet and living area was inspected in detail. Each plate, cup, saucer, glasses, towel, etc. was counted. Otto held up each towel and inspected it for marks and stains. There was a very small green mark on one of the towels. We didn’t know what it was but were confident it would come out in the wash. Otto was very complimentary about how we had left the villa and returned our 500 euro cash deposit.

“Our honeymoon”
Reviewed 22 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We spent 8 weeks in Europe and our highlight was definitely our stay at Villa Bellevue. It has a unique location, never stayed in such a place before. You breathe the salty air from the ocean, it has an always changing panorama full of passing by fisher boats, yachts, spotted dolphins and whales and had the most romantic sunsets on the terrace upstairs.
The house is very spacious and provides all commodities one needs. Otto is a great host and even surprised us with a homemade honeymoon cake.
We did a lot of tours and it was a great base to explore the island. Especially recommendable is the Teide mountain, Masca bay and the Loro Parque.
Often we left early in the morning and came back in the afternoon. It was great to jump in the pool or to go to the beach nearby which is really recommendable. Very clean, sandy and private.

If you look for an unique spot to spent a really great time, you wont regret it.

We hope to come back one day

“Beautiful Villa, Great Location!”

The villa was exactly as advertised, right on the sea with expansive views. There was wonderful swimming either in the pool, in the sea right in front of the villa, or at the beach after a very short walk. The kitchen and barbeque were well-equipped for cooking, but there were also several good restaurants within walking distance. There were four of us traveling, but the house will easily accommodate twelve (we like to spread out). The house was meticulously clean. The sea breeze kept the house cool even during the afternoon sun and there were no mosquitoes, so the windows could be open even at night. Otto tended the lush gardens every morning and was a gracious host. The location was perfect for us as there was plenty to do in Puerto de Santiago, but it was also quiet enough to relax. In fact, we were there during the low season and a few restaurants were closed (but not too many). We particularly enjoyed driving to El Teide and hiking from Masca to the beach in Los Gigantes. Highly recommended.

“Great Stay - Thank you Otto!”
Reviewed 11 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

I booked this house for a group of 15 people for a big family & friends gathering and we couldn’t have been more pleased.

I picked this villa based on pictures, location and reviews and it exceeded my expectations. We were AMAZED at how great this place was. The pictures don’t do it justice. The house was big enough to sleep all of us without anyone feeling cramped. The property is unbelievably well managed and maintained. It was easy to book, the owners were easy do deal with and their communication was impeccable.

The location if perfect, directly on the ocean. Albeit the beach is just beautiful, we also enjoyed it to go for a swim directly at the small bay in front of the house which we had for ourselves. We all fell in love with the sunsets over the ocean which are MAGICAL. We just felt like being on a cruise liner.

If you are lucky enough and there is something available, be sure to make arrangements to stay here. Overall, I would highly recommend the property to anyone looking to house a large group.

“The Shangri-La of the Canary Islands”
Reviewed 9 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

As every year, we have just spent 2 weeks at this amazing villa in Playa de la Arena, one of the nicest areas of Tenerife. Although we booked the house in order to have a beach holiday, we found it very easy to visit the nearby towns, villages, beaches and mountains in the region and also on the neighbor island of La Gomera. We were very surprised to find a very high level of English everywhere and excellent public transport system, both on buses and ferries. The bus stop was only a short walk from the house, as were a good bakery and super market. We also enjoyed buying produce at the fish market in Alcala. Because of the convenient location of the house, we frequently went down to the village several times a day before and after the beach. The beach next to the villa is stunningly clean and tranquil. The owner of the house kindly gave us the names of many good cafes and restaurants that were where the locals eat, and therefore reasonably priced. The house itself was in a lovely sunny position, yet kept cool during some exceptionally hot weather. Another very nice gesture from the owner of the house was to make reservations for us and for our friends for a taxi service to Tenerife Airport. Because he speaks perfect English, we knew that if we had a problem with lack of Spanish, he would help us out. Concerning the house, it was exactly as pictured, with a very nice outdoor pool and garden. The bedrooms were very large and all 3 apartments have lovely sunny balconies. The kitchen had a very good washing machine and dishwasher,,and enough cutlery, crockerymetc for eight people. Even more important, the wifi was excellent. We were also able to watch BBC television in English.. The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and the beds very comfortable. The location is unique, you will never find another location on the Canary Islands right on the ocean with such stunning views and sunsets. It feels as if we were right on the ocean.
