Morning has broken over a misty Sabie Valley - The Floreat provided warm hospitality to match the ambience of Sabie - Great Service, Great Staff.
Cool misty mornings in the Sabie Valley are the perfect prelude to a baking African summer's day.

Room Tip: Beautiful waking up next to the Sabie river. :)

We had high hopes for the Floreat in Sabie. Firstly, the accommodation is okay, it would be suitable for a family staying together. There are multiple beds in our cottage and there is kitchen space to cook. Most importantly, the reception staff is friendly and helpful. Beyond that things fall apart.

First, our rooms were dirty, like in a poorly kept hostel. The floors were grimy and one of the beds had a blood stain on the sheet, to say nothing of the poor quality of the bedding and mattresses. The furniture was secondhand college dorm worthy.

The facilities and grounds are adequate, but that is it. The setting, though likely beautiful in the past, looks onto a deforested hill with sections of tree plantations re growing and a 'township.'

Finally breakfast was a buffet that consisted of the lowest quality food we have had on the trip, admittedly perhaps not a scathing condemnation as the food on this trip has been amazing. But it is a condemnation. Breakfast consisted of cold meat, canned fruit, watery coffee, and cereals: Okay as a service inclusive, but not for 360 Rand for three. I know, we should have double checked, but these were not cheap rooms. And we asked about breakfast and they neglected to tell us it was not inclusive.

Considering the Floreat goes out of its way to advertise itself as a quality place to stay, it was disappointing that it turned out to be below average.

The location of the hotel is in the hillside town of Sabie in good reach of many beauty spots and of course Kruger National Park.
From the initial booking in I was a little concerned as the reception areas garden was full of weeds and the large pots holding shrubs had tab ends in them.
Our room smelled of damp and looked very tired and the bathroom area was in very poor condition but we had just driven for 4 hours and just wanted a drink and something to eat. On our way we passed the pool area and our concerns grew as we saw the condition of the pool which was chipped and the water filthy. weeds growing out of the paving surrounding it added to the ambiance. I could ramble on for pages about poor food especially the breakfast, the building work going on around the restaurant and pool, the tears in the baize of the pool table and the general rundown look of the entire place and our evening meal which took over 2 hours to serve and was of such poor quality we sent it back.
In fairness to the team and managers they did what the could to put things right. We were upgraded to their honeymoon suites which were thoroughly cleaned, very spacious but again tired. All the staff were very obliging, polite, pleasant and efficient.
The owners are obviously investing money in the property but potential guests should be informed as to the poor state of the hotel and the building works going on. The pool area was totally unusable through out our stay. I would not think of booking here again despite the efforts of the hardworking team. Once again the staff are let down by greedy owners.

Room Tip: Book at another hotel.

We enjoyed the quite and beautiful riverside setting of this lodge and our suite was spacious, clean and well-appointed. The breakfast buffet was nothing to write home about and the restaurant atmosphere was stiff and outdated.

The bar-lounge area was nicely decorated and furnished but the separate bar and pool room was a bit tacky. Service was good but impersonal on a whole with the exception of Walter.

Room Tip: Try get a room near the river with mountain views.

Sabie is a lovely little hill town that you come upon after the scenic drive down the Longtom Pass. Unfortunately despite a riverside location the property itself is poorly designed with no sitouts and poorly furnished rooms. The food too is way below average, but the staff is surprisingly helpful, friendly and resourceful. I would not select to stay here again.
