Pretty nice railway museum. Really worth seeing, especially if you are a train lover. We were with a 4yo kid, he loved it.

As will any train buffs in the area. Great museum pieces in tip top condition. Most areas you can get up close and many train carriages you can board. Lots of fun and very close to walk into town afterwards .

There are also cafes and bars opposite the main entrance .

Easy train journey from Salou (weekdays only) at 8.41 change at Sant Vicenc and you're at the museum (right outside train station) for opening. Don't bother walking uptown to tourist office as the two most important museums are near the train station and the lovely staff in the Museu de Ferrocarril will give you a map of the town.
Entrance is a reasonable 6 euros and well worth it.
You start inside .Great film upstairs about the History of the Spanish Railways in a very stylishly decorated room. Full of memorabilia- gauges, lanterns, caps, Barcelona Underground System engineering, Station Master's Office and more. Great children's play area downstairs as well. Beautifully illustrated book on one of the desks '100 years of Spanish Rail' -cool pictures.
Now, outside and absolute train heaven. Restored Locomotives of all descriptions. Some of them are made more historically entertaining thanks to 'model' costumed passengers obviously enjoying their holiday trip.
Don't miss the Renfe Talgo area- open the door and see how train travel has evolved in Spain over the decades. Love the fact they have a huge empty section ready for the 21st century newcomers.
Nearly two hours of sheer bliss for adults and kids alike. Wonderful staff and great range of reasonably priced items in the shop which kids will love.
Made me want to zip to Camp de Tarragona station and jump on a high speed Ave to Lerida -sadly it'll have to wait until next year.

For the rail enthusiast this place is brilliant - not packed but what is there is superbly displayed in the old roundhouse and around the turntable. The quality and maintenance is first sate - Everything shines. A very good range of steam and diesel and electric locos and coaches. Well worth a trip to Vilanova to see. The staff were charming.
