I have a big problem - I adore trains.. OK so that's out of the way! The truly impressive thing is the scale the broad gauge allows, particularly in stream locomotive development... the final flowering of Spanish steam locomotives is truly awesome in scale and will impress any one from 8 to 80 - particularly those who are used to European steam engines.

Then there is the technical development of the Talgo trains and the bogie adjusting equipment.

In my review of Pietresara I mentioned the different European schools of train building... Spanish industry has a special place..

But it's not for just for enthusiasts... my wife particularly enjoyed the explanations by the locomotives. She says she learnt more than anywhere else! Then there is the passion of the girls on reception and the shop. Their knowledge is fantastic, and so freely given. Buy the guide before you tour the site - at e6 it's great value. Finally entrance is far too cheap, and they are obviously short of money.. so please give generously to their collection box.

Enjoy!

Thank Tim B

The museum is a 45min train ride from Barcelona (Roadlies Line R2) with four trains per hour. Sit on the left going for the sea views.
The museum entrance is 100 yards from the station, and €6 for an adult. While there are small exhibits, models and railwayana inside, the main interest is outside where, around the turntable, is a wonderful selection of ex-RENFE steam locomotives of various types and sizes. The half-roundhouse loco shed contains more steam locos, some of the other exhibits and some vintage carriages. Off another part of the turntable is a selection of diesel and electric locos, of interest is a Talgo unit with a couple of articulated carriages.

You'll spend an hour to 90 mins here, but it's a glimpse into the past of Spain's railways. Rail fare from Barcelona is around €8 return.

For train lovers a really interesting museum
Full of trains from the old old to the new .
Steam trains that I love to diesel types.
All for 3e each ,the staff are really nice .
You could spend hours looking and reading the plaques on these engines in English even a written part for children to understand.

Good value, even if you didn't think you'd be interested. We actually managed to spend over 2 hours here. Recommend you head upstairs and watch the film first.

We stayed in Sitges and decided on a little day trip out. We decided on Villanova just because it's one train stop along. Having a quick look on the web I found the train museum. My husband loves trains and we do love going to museums in general so we popped along here and we were glad we did. It's a lovely wee place. Very helpful staff - they even put a video on early for us and in English which was a overly touch. The place is well laid out, there are a significant number of trains for those who want to look at them.

It isn't the biggest museum by any stretch but it's only €7 entry and included a free further entry too. Little and big kids alike will love this place.

It's really close to the train station, you can see it just turning the head right coming out of the station.
