This was our first visit to Warton Crag and we were impressed with the views which can be had for very little effort (they start after about 15 minutes on a gently rising slope). We accessed the crag from the footpath leading from the free car park on Crag Lane (which runs past with the George Washington pub).

On route look out for lots of Early Purple Orchids (in May); Pearl-bordered Fritillary; Dingy Skipper; and the impressive, day flying, Emperor Moth. There is an extensive network of paths and so it may be easy to become disorientated as there is limited signage.

This is a relatively easy walk considering how far up you go. The highlight really is the view at the top it's great for a picnic too

Warton Crag quarry car park was easy to find. Yes, the views are nice - but for the naturalist - breeding Peregrine Falcons; Pearl-bordered Fritillary butterflies; Early Purple orchids. All second week in May. Brilliant!
