“Beautiful villa, quiet village, great location.”
Reviewed 24 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed at Villa Fuente Viaja for a week in June. The villa is spacious and beautiful. Everything you need for cooking and grocery in walking distance. Elisa is a wonderful host and will help with anything you need to make you stay comfortable and stress free. The pool is very private and relaxing, the gardens around the villa are beautiful and provide some fresh produce as well. Oranges, lemons, limes, and avocados, were available when we were there. There are excellent restaurants in the village as well, with everyone helpful and friendly. We rented a car which made it easy to take plenty of day trips, including Ronda, Gibraltar, Tarifa, and Tangiers. But the villa is so relaxing and beautiful that you may just want to stay there. We had a great week and would recommend this for anyone.

“Lovely mountain escape”

We came here in May with a 2.5 year old and a 7 week old. The location is ideal for Gibraltar airport, as it is only 40 mins drive away. In contrast the specific location is quite difficult to access. You have to drive down a rocky path which is not on google maps in order to reach the front gates. Having done that however, the place is amazing. A great house with stunning grounds. A lovely front garden dominated by the biggest mulberry tree you have ever seen. An upper "herb" garden with fresh produce growing. Beyond the front garden is a parking area leading to the pool. This has to be seen to be believed. A shaded garden area win overhanging canopy surrounds a lovely pool. Shallow end steps allow easy access for kids and a deep end of 1.9 m. The whole place is enclosed by walls and a fence, with a separate gate between the pool and the rest of the property to prevent kids accessing themselves.
Front and rear gardens have water features - a pool d from the local spring at the back which is full of fish, and a fountain in het he front which had fish in while we were there.

The house itself is lovely. A ground floor dominated by a large room with kitchen, dining and living room facilities, upstairs there are at least 3 bedrooms which sleep 2, we got the feeling there might be another room available which we did not require and was closed for our visit.

In addition there are 3 toilet/ shower rooms, 2 of which have baths also. The bathroom facilities are probably a weak feature of het he place, but if you are used to staying in Spanish villas they will be as expected.

In terms of facilities, should you require there is wifi, TV DVD player, CD player etc.

The local town is small. There are 2 mini supermarkets. We actually travelled 30 mins to a carrefour while we were there but you could easily manage locally. Beware however, if you are thinking of walking in to town, it will take 20 mins but is very very steep. In practice we did it with the kids once then decided it was preferable to stay in the villa from then on. The town is on the side of a mountain and extremely steep. There are a few restaurants but as I said we didn't use them very much. The house is so nice it seemed foolish not to use it instead.

There is also easy access to the surrounding area which is extremely beautiful. Mountains and the national park.

The host was lovely. She met us at the start, lived next door and was full of useful advice about the area. I would advise calling on the approach to the town, as driving around the town on Sat nav is a nightmare and actually not required, irrespective of what googlemaps says!

The pool was just about warm enough in the penultimate week in May. Our impression about the temperature was that we were about 2-3 degrees cooler than at sea level, so consider that in terms of time of booking. In addition, there is no air con as far as I could see, but there is also quite a breeze which may compensate. I can't comment as we were there in may. The temperature was perfect for kids. Cool at night and not too hot during the day.

Overall this was a great week. We would definitely come back to the property, probably when it was slightly warmer as we would get more use from the pool. Particularly ideal if you are happy to remain in the property or like a good stiff walk!
