“Perfect For Our Family New Year Celebration”
Reviewed 5 January 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We stayed at Cilan Farmhouse from the Saturday after Christmas to see the New Year in. There was 4 generations of our family visiting and having 5 bedrooms all with en-suite was perfect for everyone's privacy and no queuing! The house is large and has two separate living rooms which enabled people to have their own space at times, or to watch different tv. The kitchen is nice and well equipped so we were able to cook large casseroles and joints for big family meals. The addition of some smaller pans and roasting dishes would be helpful when doing smaller portions of food, everyone tended to cook their own breakfast and snacks. There are lots of really nice crockery, mugs, cups and cutlery so there was no running short of anything. The Range oven was fabulous for cooking for a large group and it was pleasant to use, cooked everything well and fast. The dishwasher was put to good use and a welcome addition for a large group. There is a small round table in the kitchen area and we found this useful for breakfast, feeding baby in the highchair and to place the Buffett food on. The dining room had a large wooden table, perfect for the family gathering, evening meal and a game of cards. There was a wood burner and logs supplied and the house had some tasteful Christmas decor and two Christmas trees which made us feel festive and at home. The house has been renovated to a high standard, very tastefully decorated and the accessories add the perfect finishing touch. We felt very happy and relaxed during our stay. The location near to the river is very scenic and nice to wander down for a bit of fresh air. My husband enjoyed fly fishing most days and was very happy to catch a grayling! We felt the addition of some local walks in the visitor guide would be helpful, as we did not know the area and this would have given us a better insight to the area. We drove over to Harlech which took an hour but was well worth it for a bracing walk along the beach and to see the castle. The walk from the house into the village is a country lane with no pavement, so didn't feel particularly safe to walk to the local pub for a drink at night although we can't say we missed that as the house is so lovely and we took plenty of drinks! The separate games room had a table tennis and football table but we felt a pool or snooker table would be better used and a treadmill would have been handy. The hot tub was fabulous, we thoroughly enjoyed it! Robes are provided which were useful. Towels and tea towels were plentiful as well. Aled the maintenance man was friendly and helpful and he attended really quickly when a fuse tripped by the toaster. This is a great place for a large group of family or friends to stay and although it is expensive it really is 5 star and top class but in a really nice homely way.

“Beautiful Converted Farmhouse”
Reviewed 9 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We loved Cilan Farmhouse. It is a beautiful house which is very tastefully furnished to a very high standard. The garden is great for kids as it is securely fenced in and access to the river is protected by a further fence (with easy gate access). Our nephew caught, skinned, cooked and ate his first fish from the banks of the river just below the house. We are expats and rented the house so as to allow friends and family to come visit us. There was plenty of space and with an ensuite bathroom in every bedroom, there was also plenty of privacy too. The only niggle was that the wi-fi strength was not up to the task of allowing live streaming and connectivity was a real pain at times.

“Perfect family and friends retreat done to a very high standard”
Reviewed 5 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

As the first people to stay in Cilan House we found everything to be brand new and absolutely spotless. It was exactly what we were looking for: a large converted farmhouse in a quiet, rural Welsh setting with plenty of room for our family and friends to come and stay with us while we visited from Australia. Everything in the house has been done to a very high standard and there are lots of quality touches to make you feel at home. Like the welcome hamper which included eggs, wine, organic milk and bread as well as the usual tea, coffee and sugar. Individual dressing gowns in each room are also a nice touch. The house is really wonderful with a comfortable lounge area opening onto the massive garden and riverside bank where the sheep graze. The kitchen is also large and well stocked for a longer stay. All the rooms have been converted to make them warm and comfortable with all the mod cons. I could go on and on as I really loved staying here and still miss the beautiful silence of the countryside and the wonderful evening light that bathes the garden in the late afternoon. Despite being close to the other cottages it is very private. And of course the hot tub is fantastic, especially for relaxing in the early evening when the kids have gone to bed! Aled the handyman on-site is also really friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to stay close to Snowdonia and wanting to have a relaxing time in Wales. The only downside is the lack of phone reception which can only be obtained from the caravan field further up the drive. But this was not the only place where we had this problem in Wales.
