We stayed at Grandma Lilly's for a few nights in May. What an amazing find! Our initial discussions with Janet, the owner, were so pleasant...just made me more comfortable and excited with my decision to stay here.
The house is in the town of Fogo, on the edge of town right on the oceanfront at one corner of the earth (according to the flat earth society:)) It's about a 15-20 minute drive from the ferry terminal. It's also about a 15 minute drive to Joe batt's arm (Fogo island inn) and no more than 20-25 to the other surrounding villages.
When you arrive, you park right up to the front door of the house where you gain entry with a PIN number (emailed to you by Janet). Super easy process. As you open the door, the floor to ceiling windows that frame the front of this house are really the key selling feature. Views over the ocean and the icebergs are beyond incredible.
The house is in the signature Fogo Island green colour, big kitchen, couches, dining table, tv, fireplace (electric), even a washer dryer! They have even provided a set of binoculars and a selfie stick for you to use...You have everything you need. There are two well appointed bedrooms on the second floor with two queen beds and the bathroom is on the main floor downstairs. Beds are very comfortable! The bathroom is very large, beautiful claw foot tub, great water pressure in the shower, all towels provided.
Most people want to come to Fogo island to stay at the Fogo Island Inn, which is truly beautiful. But for $2000/night it is not accessible to most people. I must admit that I was very happy to have dinner at the inn and to stay at the Old Salt Box!! Would definitely do that again. Would recommend this house to anyone coming to Fogo. Janet was amazing to deal with, the house was beautiful, it was conveniently located (close to the other towns and trails, grocery stores and some restaurants close by) and the views unbelievable.
Thanks Janet!! Loved staying here.
