Review of Hotel Ixnuk

This is a clean, attractive place. It is two blocks from Plaza de Armas, and walking distance from some good eats, bars, stores, etc.

Just a couple comments on other reviews here:

The fellow commenting on how the receptionist couldn't read a map made me laugh. I've been using google maps on my cell phone to communicate with South American taxi drivers where I'd like to go, then using it to monitor their progress en route (if you're from the US, get a TMobile data plan, and it comes with unlimited international 2G, priceless) and half the time the guys cannot read the map. I have read it for them, to tell them where to go. I read the review here where the guy complains about the staff's cartographic illiteracy when booking, and made a point of asking for a city map and directions to Plaza de Armas (right around the corner from here) from the receptionist, and sure enough, she took over a minute studying the map to orientate and locate where we were and it was. Gotta do your own due diligence here, folks. Tiene cuidado.

Second, the reception woke up at 8:30 this morning to remind me about breakfast, which since I hadn't asked them to do it, was annoying. Groggily, I went up, and got asked what type of pressed juice, what type of coffee, and what type of bread (rolls or toast) I wanted. The other reviewer complaining about the lack of non-Spanish menus has a point, but since this is provincial Peru, their absence is unsurprising. No other food was offered, but since he had complained about Spanish speakers getting other things, I was inspired to ask si tienen hueveos (not such a complicated construct to piece together, even when bleary from sleep) and was asked if I wanted jamon with them. Got a decent ham scramble promptly after that. Not bad at all..

No complaints here, for discounted 30$ a night it is very good verging on excellent. The regular pricing makes it less value for money.

First impression excellent! Sadly the receptionist ,when asked where we were on the map, marked the wrong spot-hence we had a 1 hour plus walk to find plaza de armas (which is actually 5 mins walk from the hotel !). How can a receptionist NOT know the location of their hotel??? She also toldus the wrong bus station to buy tickets for Chiclayo and that there were only 10pm buses!!!! Actually the bus station for chiclayo buses is just up from the hotel(on sanchez cerra) and the buses run every hour!!!(try a company called Linea!) When we asked if their restaurant was open she told us there is no restaurant. The first morning breakfast was served in our room and lo and behold the next day we were told we could have breakfast on the 4th floor!! So we were charged for room service that we didn't ask for. Breakfast pretty basic, anyway. Room, very clean and new but very noisy-from the airconditioner and from street noise. Bed very comfy, but not enough to compensate for the noise.Even though we'd specifically requested not to be near a stairwell, it was beside our room-no noise from that, however. They provide a Raid plug in which fortunately we did not need.

Room tip: Away from street noise.

Booked at the last minute and got a great deal on a very spacious and modern double room. The hotel was spotlessly clean, with a free transfer from/to the airport and just 5 mins walk from the centre of town. The only negative point was the breakfast, no proper choice offered (although Spanish speakers seemed to be ordering different things), I asked for an English menu, but they told me they didn't have one and just provided a 'breakfast' of dry bread and juice that was really unpleasant.

Very well located in the heart of the city. All rooms on all four floors appear to be (almost) windowless (not that there is any view anyway). They are however, very well air-conditioned, which is a real blessing, especially on hot, humid days. Their style is very reminiscent of modern Scandinavian hotel rooms, but is very functional and adequate in size. Because of the automatic electronic door locking systems, one might be forgiven though in feeling either feel very secure, or that you are in some form of lock down penal institution.
The bathroom is of a good size, complete with a wonderfully large shower space. Complimentary toiletries are also supplied.
Spanish is all that is spoken, but the staff do make great efforts to understand what your needs are, whether expressed in fluent or faltering Spanish.

The Hotel actually has two places in Piura. I stayed at both of them and I liked it. The rooms were clean and spacious. The internet worked good and reliable. You re getting a pretty good breakfast next day and if you re looking for something to eat at night they ll offer that, too. One place is closer to the centre. A lot of the restaurants, bars and clubs are within walking distance. I would always stay there again!
